    ctopher, I should clarify, it is (hypothetically) an assembly BOM with the parts listed and detailed. But, I do agree on letting the manufacturer make the call as to where to start, so long as the finished product is correct. Thank you so much for your reply! Lanny

    jassco, Thank you! I agree completely that the raw material column should only state the material. This has been a disagreement between my manager and myself. I feel as though it is not my job to tell the manufacturer, in most instances, how to make the part, just what the final product should...

    Let's say that I am detailing a part that is 12GA x 4" x 6" and I have a Bill of Materials with a Raw Material column that states... SHT: 12GA x 4.00 x 6.00. Would I need to make any of the dimensions (THK, WIDTH, LENGTH) on the detail reference dimensions? I cannot seem to find anything in ASME...
