    I think you have to exclude first the weld region, as stresses there would be considered peak. Then near the weld you will consider stresses as local. I don't think having a defined distance of local membrane is useful, i think it is best to ask your friend engineering judgement here

    In table 1.1, 2.3, if you look at the schema there is a radius r2 for the insert nozzle. Under it there is a direct reference to note 8, which is not the case for the set-in nozzle. That's why i though this note was only for insert nozzle, but i think you're right it is more general than that...

    You can have a look at note (8) of B31J. Looks like from the first sentence that insert are better for SIF, since you automatically multiply them by 0.7.

    Kinda curious too on how you designed the weld. The throat thickness should be 9.45mm (0.7*pipe thickness). So how did you get 8mm?
