    From what i saw she had the raw data of the scan at her computer and a different program to view it. (unrelated to Abaqus) This program as well has an export function to generate a abaqus mesh out of its data. Apparently no geometry is exported. (i got the cae file as is)

    I got my mesh from my tutor who herself told me obtained it by using an X-ray computed tomograph (its a model of bovine bone). Thats apparently why there is no geometry behind it. (i wrote this already, no offence :P) That is why i cannot change the element type the usual way.
