We used to have wheelnuts with very thick washers somehow crimped onto them. Even so 4.5mm clearance sounds madly excessive even for a hub centric design (which I have never come across in practice)
Given that all the brands mentioned have reasonable crash ratings it would appear that crash ratings aren't fit for purpose. The government/institutions have set the wrong test criterion for engineers to optimise around.
So I'll give you a clue or two.
That big TV screen in the centre console...
More subsidies from poor people to rich people China's subsidies represent about 10% of EV prices, while South Korea and Germany offer around 16-20%. The US provides roughly 26% through various federal and state programs.
I believe Tesla fines you if you overstay. I doubt it would be hard to include dynamic pricing for chargers, based on the number of vehicles waiting, and your SOC.
Some journo in the UK observed that the shortage of public chargers is exacerbated by the drivers who want to charge to 100% which takes much longer than 90%.
Well yes and no. Many things take half a decade to get into production even after they have been officially blessed. So to some extent they do have to crystal ball a fair amount. But yes the worst (possibly) thing that ever happened to US OEMs is quarterly reports to Wall St.
"why are the OEMs still betting so heavily on EVs?" Sunk cost fallacy and a reluctance to admit their wisdom was limited. The boards drunk the Net Zero Kool Aid, especially VW and Ford, and deemed in the face of raised eyebrows of the mere minions that BEVs were the future. Having decimated or...
BEV in Norway was heavily incentivised by the government.
The Norwegian EV incentives:
No purchase/import tax on EVs (1990-2022). From 2023 some purchase tax based on the cars’ weight on all new EVs.
Exemption from 25% VAT on purchase (2001-2022). From 2023, Norway will implement a 25% VAT on...
" BEVs having lower % depreciaiton" Not according to industry figures.

In April 1999, the cheapest car in Australia – the Daihatsu Sirion – was $11,990 before on-road costs. So with ABS (to make it equivalent to a modern car) and on road costs it comes to $14,000, about $27,692.98
Another data point - in 2020, the Kia Picanto cost $16,490 which is equivalent in...
"For certain the entire market was warped by the car makers realizing they could make similar profits while selling fewer cars by cranking up the options level and leaving the cheap seats market. "
To be honest that is capitalism 101 and is not driven by EVs necessarily, they've been talking...
Sales of new electric vehicles in Germany have plummeted, dropping nearly 37% in July 2024 from the same month one year ago.
One of the main reasons traces back to mid-December 2023, when the German government gave less than one week’s notice before ending its subsidy program for electric...
Well dik seems determined to push counterfactuals. Here's another one "China is flooding the rest of the world (except Canada and a few others) with BEVs." I have reported one post and will report all of his other fantasies if he persists.
Here's facts as opposed to demented fantasies...
I'm sure Seagull meets Chinese safety regs, that is, as usual, not the point.
With respect to NCAP. Short 4 seater cars have problems with offset frontal crash as the foot space is restricted. Narrow 4 seater cars have problems with side impact, as the distance between the incoming 1365 kg...
The reason they are popular in Norway is that the Norwegian government has a whole host of ways encouraging you to buy an EV. They can afford to do this because they export a great deal of fossil fuel. Hence it is a luxury belief. In Denmark or the Netherlands (can't remember which) when similar...
Several companies have walked back on their heavily publicised intention to be all electric by 203x, including, in world shattering news Lotus. That'll up-end the market. Maybe Toyota were right all long. What a surprise.
