    MOV

Hello, I would like to implement an MOV on the input of a PLC. Can anyone provide me with links to good information on how to specify one? I want to protect the PLC from line voltage (120vac) transients. thanks

    soft start current window

FYI.....after speaking with ABB, I'm told that as long as the motor is started under a reasonable load, that although the ramp time may be shorter, it will work. It will work with little or no load as well with a decreased ramp time even still. I finally ran the thing with a slight load, and...

    soft start current window

Oh, sorry about that.....will the softstarter with the higher current rating (6.1a) control a motor ok that's only running at 2.8a....the smaller model SS max current is 3.4a....but I can't get my hands on one in time.....

    soft start current window

I've seen quite a few topics on SS here, but my question goes unanswered....I have an ABB softstarter with a max motor current rating of 6.1A, and I need to control a motor at 480v with an FLA of 2.8A. I seem to remember being told that the circuit in the softstarter has a current 'window' in...

    dc contactor

permanent magnet....I think Keith found the ideal solution...Robotpower has a nice OSMC that sounds perfect. Thank you AGAIN Keith!! I'm surprised finding a seemingly simple solution to reversing a DC motor is such a pain....are low voltage ('high' current) DC motor systems just not that popular?

    dc contactor

Thanks Gunnar...I'm not familiar with the bus and truck relays....

    dc contactor

24VDC 1/2hp 60FLA Motor roughly 20s duty cycle Having hard time finding a DC contactor(need reversing, but non will be ok for now). If I use 2 SPDT contactors in parrallel (in order to reverse the motor), one passing the '+' and the other '-', would I be ok with a 400A NO / 200A NC inrush...

    pv/solar power bbu

I hope I understood your request correctly (to reply in THIS thread :) ) Ok, so this guy wanted a cordless lcd picture frame? Ok... After some looking around, I've learned that the car battery is a pretty solid dude. Lets see if I have this right: A 225 reserve capacity provides 25A for 225...

    pv/solar power bbu

I need to come up with a battery backup charging system using a solar panel. The batteries will be running a 1.3HP DC motor with an FLA of about 60 amps. The battery will be a couple of car batteries in series. Using the 20% ROT, I figure I need around a 300W charger. However, most solar...

    FLA vs SFA

    thank you guys!

Mundane discussion of DIN rail Terminal Blocks

I guess it depends on the location.....and who's poking around etc...obviously it's not just going to fall out :)

    FLA vs SFA

I thought the same, but was told that the SFA is NOT equal to the FLA x SF, that there was more to it than a simple calculation...

Mundane discussion of DIN rail Terminal Blocks

I don't like the spring clamp style because they seem to depend on the strength of the spring. When you screw down the box style on a wire, you know it's tight, and if you're not comfortable with whether you've got the wire or the insulation, you can pull it out and it's very clear what got...

    FLA vs SFA

on a (for example) 2HP 3phase 208-230/460v motor data sheet, it has 'none' listed under the SFA, would it be because they didn't test for it, or it's the same as the FLA? I can't imagine why they wouldn't list it. I couldn't get an acceptable answer out of the reps I deal with, and would...

    switching direction with softstarter

Not adverse, just takes up a lot of space....that's what I've decided to do however. Thanks for all of your inputs!

    switching direction with softstarter

right.....thanks, this is the best place there is to get a sanity check.... :)

    switching direction with softstarter

This particular motor will be running near 10A....Ideally, I'd like to just use a 3PDT relay...incidentally, why aren't there contactors with NO and NC contacts for reversing? At least I'm not familiar with one.

    switching direction with softstarter

I want to change direction on a 3ph motor using a soft starter....I would like to make the construction more simple and the cost lower by adding a relay between the motor and ss rather than adding 2 contactors before the ss. I do not have a lot of experience with soft starters, and I'm not...

    battery charger inhibit

In reading up on battery chargers, I see some have an inhibit property, and some do not. Apparently the ones that do "sink current" when input power is removed. Is the current they are talking about the leakage input current or leakage output current or something else altogether? What would...

    di/dt

oh, no, nothing near that high of current! Max current will be around 60A (other than inrush)....The 24vac is off a 3kVA step down transformer.
