Hi Hark88,
Yes you can. You can export a .e2k file which is a text file of the complete model you have created. Just go to File->Export->ETABS .e2k Text File.
You can then make any edit to the script and simply import back into a new model using File->Import.

Hi acjacky,
I too am starting to look into this for my company. Have you managed to source any resources or journal papers on this topic. I am primarily interested in the assessment of existing concrete and masonry wall buildings.

Hi All,
To date I have been using openSees to complete most of my NLTH analysis and I quite like like using this programme. However, my company have decided to go with sap2000 for future NLTH analysis projects. My question is quite general but hopefully might start a discussion. I am quite sure...
Hi All,
Can anyone out there tell me how to extract modal amplitudes for a set of nodes from Etabs 2015. I am completing a modal analysis for a slab, I can obviously see the modal amplitudes (for each node) on screen as well as all other displacements for my given load cases. However, if I go...
Thanks for the response KootK.
I guess another way to ask the question is this:
When we normally consider the ELF method in terms of obtaining a base shear the storey forces go from a maximum at roof level and vary linearly* to zero at ground. Some codes obviously allow for some increase in...
Hi All,
I am trying to figure out whether a seismic static lateral force analysis (or equivalent static analysis or lateral force method) gives absolute or relative storey forces. My aim is to convert the obtained floor forces (Fi) (from the static analysis) into pseudo floor accelerations...
I think what Amy87 means is "lumped" plasticity, also known as "local". You want to know if SAP can carry out a nonlinear analysis using a distributed plasticity model. The honest answer is I'm not sure but I didn't think so. Unless this has changed with the newer releases of SAP v15/v16. Please...
I would agree for general analysis models. But ROBOT is quite limited especially in terms of non-linear time history analysis, which is the type of analysis I most often carry out. CSI products (Sap2000 and Etabs) are more superior for this type of analysis.
I know there is a translator...
Hi,
Is it true that you can now carry out non-linear time history analysis. The previous versions would only allow non-linear pushover and staged construction with elastic time history analysis (NLTHA). I like Etabs because it has better BIM capabilities ( bi-directional link with Revit)...
I'm surprised Sap2000 and Etabs haven't been mentioned so much in the discussion. I admit they can be a little expensive but for non-linear analysis (especially for seismic) they are probably up there with the best. I like the new release of Etabs (v13) as it can finally handle some non-linear...
Hi,
Has anyone been using Revit structure to build their SAP models and if so how good is it?
Is there bi-directional compatibility and what versions of each software work best?

Does anybody have any ideas what could be the issue???
I have left the problem for so time and have now come back to it with fresh eyes.
But I still cannot overcome this issue.

Maybe you could try and run it as an isotropic model just to check if that works. Maybe there is an issue elsewhere in the model? Just be careful if you are running a cyclic analysis as isotropic hardening would not be appropriate. But it should prove as a check on the model.

Thanks Drej and rtalageri for your response.
I have taken your advise and completed a modal analysis to check whether the mass is attached properly and it is. I have used the approach of applying a point mass inertia to the vertices at the end of the strut and the results are correct. I have...
Hi all,
I am trying to perform an Explicit direct-integration dynamic analysis.
I am simulating a single degree of freedom (SDOF) structure initially to test my method and the results.
My structure is a simple strut (cantilever column, see attached) which is fixed at its base and free at the...
Hi all,
I have an issue with convergence when modelling a steel brace member with two lines of symmetry and using shell elements (S4R).
I am trying to compare the cyclic hysteresis response of the brace to existing test data. I am using a symmetric tensile/compressive displacement controlled...
Hi,
I am performing a low cycle fatigue analysis of a strut member subjected to cyclic loading using ABAQUS/CAE.
I have all my material properties working using a combined isotropic/kinematic hardening model. My difficulty lies in implementing the life parameters detailed below:
Fatigue...
Further to the above issue, the reason given for non-convergence is "Plasticity integration algorithm did not converge for element 5081, material 1, Chaboche model".
What exactly does this mean??
I appreciate convergence issues are answered a lot, but any info would be hugely appreciated.
Hi,
I am trying to carry out a cyclic (tension and compression) analysis on a steel strut in Ansys WB. I am trying to obtain the force-displacement response of the strut under displacement controlled loading.
What is of primary interest is the buckling behaviour of the strut and so to model...
Does anybody know how to combine two material models in Ansys Workbench v12.
I am trying to perform a cyclic analysis and the most accurate material model to use is an isotropic/kinematic one. In particular a bilinear isotropic hardening model with a chaboche nonlinear kinematic hardening law...
