Tech Explanation on Diesel Engine in AC Generator Set

Hello All, I was hoping to get a Technical Explanation on the Power ( kW Input ) requirements of an Industrial Diesel Engine 1500rpm in a 4 Pole AC Generator Set. Is there any impact on kW Rating ( or another way to ask kW Efficiency ) of a Diesel Engine when the Output Supply and AC Alternator...

Failure of ISO PumpEnd ( Diesel Driven )

Hello All, We have seen a couple of Broken Pump Shafts ( Stainless Steel ) on Diesel Driven ISO PumpEnds. These are coupled via a 'Close Coupling' arrangement ( ie. Direct Pre-Load Bearing Adaptor with Muff Coupling between Pump & Engine ). I attach a couple of Photos to help show the Failures...

Exciter Stator Failure - Cause ???

Hello All, Just trying to get an idea of a cause of failure on an AC Generator ( 125 kVA ). See photo - this is the Exciter Stator. The AVR had also blown on this machine. The Generator Set is a Diesel Driven Unit Powering an Electric Pump Motor 55 kW with VSD / Soft Starter. I welcome any...

Diesel Driven Water Pump with Vacuum Priming System - Centrifugal Clutch Engagement Speed

Hello All, We are Building a Diesel Engine Driven Water Pump System that includes a Vscuum Priming Kit. The Unit needs Remote Start/Stop & Telemetry. We have fitted a Centrifugal Clutch to disengage Water Pump for first 5 minutes so Water Pump can be Primed before engagement. The Priming is...

    Sheared Flywheel Bolts on Generator

It is a bit of a strange looking Coupling arrangement- this came from supplier and it seems they use a Rotor with Keyed Shaft (possibly from the 2 Bearing Bare Shaft version) and provide SAE Discs for Direct Couple to Engine Flywheel/Housing.

    Sheared Flywheel Bolts on Generator

Thanks Keith, I would be interested in a more detailed explanation of what occurs when Synchronisation goes wrong. Torque is no doubt a key ingredient in the failure but can it be explained how the Process unfolds leading up to the sheared bolts.

    Sheared Flywheel Bolts on Generator

Hello All, We recently had a Generator Failure - High Tensile Flywheel Bolts were sheared on the AC Generator. The Generator Set has been in operation and we understand the system includes Solar. My question is could this Generator Failure be caused from incorrect Synchronisation. I would...

Technical Information when Starting Electric Pump Motor

Hi Bill, Can you elaborate more on the comment about connecting Motor to Generator before Starting the Generator (and UPS for Power to AVR). Not exactly sure what you mean by this.

Technical Information when Starting Electric Pump Motor

Thanks so much for all of the replies and Technical information and Curves. I will need to read through the thread a few Tinmes to best absorb the information. A key ingredient in our Variable Speed Generator is to eliminate Costs and Harmonics associated with VFD & Soft Starters. Taking away...

Technical Information when Starting Electric Pump Motor

Hello All, I am new to the forum and joined to see if I can learn more about calculating Technical Data when Starting Electric Motors on Water Pump systems. Have been exposed to various Starting methods including DOL (generally LRC is 6x times FLC) and VSD / Soft Starters (Changing Frequency/...
