Just a general question seeking some responses based on personal experiences please:
How has the construction industry changed over the years in regards to structural engineering, and the structural engineers role?
The accelerations that you will get are not actual accelerations. They are scaled by R to perform an elastic analysis and design. I think the only way to get actual accelerations in the structure due to earthquake is to do a non-linear analysis.
Just heard about the HP 35s and ordered one. I have also burned through 2 HP33s. What a terrible calculator. The seven on one of them doesnt work, and the 5 on the other works half the time. Also have HP 48g and HP 20s.
Light Pole, Flag Pole, these both seem to be cantilevered examples. Usually anything that is not fixed at the bottom and free at the top is not called a pole.
Cheers
The fundamental frequency of a beam is (1/(2*pi))*sqrt(K/M). Working this out for a cantilever with a uniform load (w)(selfweight) and a load at the end of the cantilever (P), the equation works out to f = 3.13 / sqrt(((P+0.236*w*L)*L^3)/(3*E*I)). P in kips, w in kips/inch, L in inches,
I am desinging a connection to transfer moment (small amount) and have specified Turn of Nut pretension. Should I design the bolts using SC shear values, or bearing type? There is not tension on the bolt group, long slotted holes are used in the direction of force.
