    Unmanned Offshore Platform Power Supply

Thank you all for your inputs ! I looked at the cost of procurement and installation for a MV 100km submarine cable, and we are in the range of $40,000,000 USD! and it would be technically challenging, with reactive compensation issues, steady-state voltage rise, transients, charging current...

    Unmanned Offshore Platform Power Supply

Hi all, do you have any suggestion for the power supply of an unmanned offshore platform: distance from shore: 100km load: 50kw How about using DC with a rectifer/inverter combination? Thanks !

    SF6 Substations

GIS substations also have the advantage of not being affected by air pollution. But smaller size is the main reason to use GIS over AIS.

    30A fuse trip, compressor starter

I'm not familiar with the control system at all. I will certainly point out that fact, that the start frequency is way too high. From a power quality stand point, everything looks Ok. I will ask them to modify the system and see if fuse still operates and also monitor contactor wear. JL

    30A fuse trip, compressor starter

jraef, in fact, the recorded data are the max & min value for the entire minute interval. For each 1 minute interval max & min values for the current, during this minute, are recorded. JL

    30A fuse trip, compressor starter

See attached file: after 2008-10-20 @ 04:42:33, the current in phase A goes up to 75A when compressor attempt to start. Question is: is it normal to draw more current on two other phases when attempting to start a motor with a blown fuse on one phase? Thx

    30A fuse trip, compressor starter

Hi all, we've been asked to investigate fuse tripping on a compressor starter: Compressor nameplate: RLA: 16.8A LRA: 84 A Fuse: Low-Peak class CC current limiting LP-CC-30 (30A) Contactor: Siemens 42BF35AJ FLA:30 A LRA:120 A 15HP 3ph First thing we did is hook up a power recorder to the...

    Voltage regulator VS capacitor bank

What would be the typical impedance of a voltage regulator? Exemple: 400A , 14.4 kV ,±10%, (576 kVA) Since it is an auto-transformer, I expect the impedance to be lower than a regular transformer. Any typical impedance? JL

    Voltage regulator VS capacitor bank

apowerengr: the plant is in connecticut, the rental of 400 amp vregs could be a good option. any information about companies that could sell/rent this kind of equipement? i'm in discussion with local utilities about this, but I would like to have a couple of options. Thank you.

    Voltage regulator VS capacitor bank

itsmoked: It is a steam powered generator, the steam comes from a gas boiler that will be replaced by three bark boilers. The steam generated by this gas boiler is also used in the process. During the time of the project (3 years), the steam required by the process will be supplied by some...

    Voltage regulator VS capacitor bank

That is true davidbeach, but since it is a 20MVA generator supplying only about 6 MW, there is no benefits to run it at 1.0 pf. I think it will all come down to pricing... Capacitor banks needs maintenance, protection study, harmonic study.. etc. Voltage regulator tranformer might be more...

    Voltage regulator VS capacitor bank

Hi all, here's the situation; a 20MVA generator will be shutdown for 3 years at a papermill. This generator was providing all power factor correction needed by the plant. And about half of the load. (Total load is 12MW, 5.7MVar) When the generator is down, pf at service entrance drops down to...

    Wind Farm grounding problems

Hi all, we are working on design and construction of ground grids for a wind farm. For each 1.5 MW generator (80 total), GE is specifying ground grid resistance of 2 to 10 ohms. With the data we have: -ground resistivity : 500 to 1000 ohms, average -projected ground grid area: 285 m^2, (about...

    neutral grounding reactance manufacturer

I'm talking about reactance. We need it to install on the high side of a step up transformer (600/25000Y), for a 2MW hydro plant. The goal is to reduce the phase-ground fault current and to stay solidly grounded at the same time. Utility requires that. I will communicate with Trench, as the...

    neutral grounding reactance manufacturer

Hi all, I'm looking for a neutral grounding reactance to install on a 25 kV Y transformer. This is to reduce de phase-ground fault current. The reactance has to be 35 ohms. I would like to know manufacturers or distributors of this kind of product, in Canada, that could help us with the...

    59N vs 50G/51G

You're right kiribanda, in my case, it's a 1MW induction generator (almost same thing than induction motor)... we will use Multilin 369 (motor relay) with 51GS function, with 50:0.025 sensitive CT. This GE CT can read currents as low as 0.25A, which will be OK with a 5A grounding resistor...I...

    59N vs 50G/51G

Thank you all for the comments. The system is delta on low voltage side, so high resistance grounding will protect the stator of the generator. JL

    59N vs 50G/51G

Hi all, when protecting a 600V alternator against ground faults (high resistance grounded, 5A); is there an advantage of using a 59N protection over using a 50G/51G with a sensitive CT? I see common practice is 59N, but basic motor relays don't have this function. I'd use 50G/51G with...

    grounding of 1MW,600V, induction generator

We plan to use two Multilin 369 to protect both generators. We will high-resistance ground them. The Multilin 369 doesn't have the 59N function, but it has a 50G/51G protection that can be used with 50:0.025 CTs (pick-up level can be adjusted from 0.25 to 25.00 A). Do you see any problems with...
