Advice on selecting automotive grade components

Oh I see what you're saying about the load shorting. Both the load and the FET are on the same circuit. If for some reason the load were to short to ground, the fuse would blow (not sure how many ms) hopefully protecting the FET. Ideally the FET would have built in overcurrent throttling, but I...

Advice on selecting automotive grade components

The vehicle it is going into is an older one, without much of a transmission brain. The engine ECU is totally oblivious to this unit. As for shorted load protection, there are already fuses that protect the load and the logic. A reverse battery condition will be of no consequence since the...

Advice on selecting automotive grade components

Salec, That's not a bad idea. It is a nicely integrated solution, but does add a bit more complexity. Some of the "OMNIFETs" seem to offer similar features in a drop in TO-220 package. Thanks for the info. Any news yet Melone?

Advice on selecting automotive grade components

Well since you are donating your time on this, certainly I don't want you to be under time pressure. But the sooner I can get information the better, as I would like a prototype in my hands in the next couple of weeks. Thanks, 0ktane

Advice on selecting automotive grade components

Hello Mark, Are you getting this? I sent some more detailed information to you as requested, but have not heard from you. Thanks, -oktane

Advice on selecting automotive grade components

Hello, If any of you have experience designing things for cars, your help would be appreciated. I would like to know what are the best components to use in a particular design. If you have any advice on protecting a uC in a car, that would be helpful too. The finished unit will mount somewhere...

Generating a "one-shot" pulse that truly occurs once

Excellent! Your information was very helpful, as this seems to be exactly what I need. Thanks for taking the time to think through these details for me! I especially like your idea about using an RC circuit for ensuring a "0" startup state. Ingenius! My one question is what will...

Generating a "one-shot" pulse that truly occurs once

Laffalot, Thanks, that helps a lot. I don't specifically need to build a circuit, so a single-chip solution would work fantastic. I like the 74xx221 chip you pointed out, however the datasheet seems to suggest that it will only be inhibitied if I keep the NOTA pin high. The datasheet says...

Generating a "one-shot" pulse that truly occurs once

Hello, This is probably a simple question for most of you, so hopefully I will get lots of replies. I need to build a circuit that will go high for 0.5-3.0 seconds upon seeing a high input, and then go back low after that time REGARDLESS of the state of the input. It must now virtually...
