Relief out of Check Valve Body...

Sorry, not clear enough here without going into the other thread... This is a 3"Ø swing check valve with a ½"x1" relief valve that appears to be mounted into the check via a threaded boss on the check valve body. I can't see much due to insulation. This is carrying -28°F liquid ammonia.

Swing check w/ screwed(?) relief valve...

The P&ID shows the Relief Valve coming from the Check Valve. Symbol indicates Swing Check. The attached photo shows the Relief coming off directly opposite the bolted cover. It is a very short relief run, from Discharge directly to Suction line to Pump. Both Suction and Discharge are...

Relief out of Check Valve Body...

I'm not sure what the rules say about double posting, so I'm posting this link to a post I'm getting no nibbles on in the Valve Engineering section... Link . It is about a Relief Valve threaded into the body of a Check Valve. Anyone have any experience/knowledge to share? Thanks, David

Swing check w/ screwed(?) relief valve...

I've come across a swing check in the discharge (vertical) of a Liquid Ammonia pump (-28°F) that has a relief valve coming out of the body of the check valve. Can't see exactly how/where due to insulation, but I expect it is coming out from a threaded boss on the check body. I assume it is on...

    ASME B16.5 - B16.47 - MSS SP-44 ???

Ah... missed that Series A/B bit. If they ordered the valve as B16.47-A we'll be OK with the MSS SP-44 flanges, otherwise, we have to get B16.47-B flanges to match. Dimensions are a little different. Now I have to find out just exactly what the client is getting after he ordered it as simply...

Mechanical Seal Failure on Feed Water Pump

Are there expansion joints on the suction &/or discharge? It could be thermal expansion of the piping attached, causing pump casing deflections leading to seal wear.

    ASME B16.5 - B16.47 - MSS SP-44 ???

For large flanges (>24"Ø), I've always used B16.47. A question has arisen around here about dimensions for "ANSI" vs MSS dimensions. Seems a 30"Ø valve was ordered with 600# "ANSI" flanges. I'm thinking this means B16.47 since "ANSI" is now spelled "ASME". So the question for the group here...

    Automate Grouping of Sheets...

I need to be able to print (via VBA on a custom tool button) all sheets in a workbook, EXCEPT the first 2 sheets. I can make it count the total number of sheets and tried to use: Dim tabcount As Integer tabcount = ThisWorkbook.Worksheets.Count Worksheets(Array(2 - tabcount)).Select...

    CAESAR Load Case Trouble...

Loren at COADE/Intergraph set me back on the straight & narrow. I forgot to go back and add the hanger loads (H) in the 2 HGR cases after changing one to a User Defined Hanger. As usual, the longer it takes to figure out a computer problem, the more obvious the solution. :p

    CAESAR Load Case Trouble...

I posted this on the COADE site as well, but it's not even being read... not much traffic there right now I guess. *************************************** Strange things going on with Springs... I have a model with Weight Temperature Displacement + Wind. Plus Spring Hangers. No Pressure...

    convective heat transfer coefficient

Don't seem to be able to edit a post once it's up... Forgot to add the Radiant Heat Loss in there. That would be duck soup as well if only we had that pesky Outside Surface Temperature. In case anyone was thinking of taking a shortcut and "intuiting" that the outside surface temp of the...

    convective heat transfer coefficient

I don't have my copy of Kern's "Process Heat Transfer" with me at the office. I wonder if there is a nice neat way to solve this in there.

    convective heat transfer coefficient

Trouble is, this calls for an iterative solution. Q = Delta T divide by Overall Thermal Resistance. We have Tinside & Toutside for overall Delta T. As for the Overall Thermal Resistance: • We have enough to calculate Nusselt Number (inside) and get Convection Coefficient (inside)...

    Excel 2007 problem...

Thanks to Clyde32 and WMO both. Two ways to do something that I was afraid might have been impossible. [thumbsup2] That's why I came in here to ask... I figured, if anyone would have already found a workaround, it would be someone on the engineering forum. :-)

    Excel 2007 problem...

That seems to be the ticket Clyde. Looks like I'll need to add a dozen short Macros. I have two sheets like this with the two sets of three option buttons. Still annoys me that I have to go to this much extra hassle to restore 'normal' operation to a previously slick workbook. I haven't even...

    Crazy handshakes

I don't really see the point to handshakes at all. Much like wearing a tie every day. I suppose it's all symbolic and traditional. I do enjoy tradition in many things, but for some reason I can't explain, handshaking simply evades me. I form my impression of someone after a few minutes...

    Excel 2007 problem...

Clyde38... yes, I can get the old "Form Controls" version to work just that way. Problem is, on the same sheet I have 2 sets of 3 option buttons. Each set is to be linked to a different cell, so I get 1, 2, or 3 in one cell, and an independant 1, 2, or 3 in the other cell. If I just charge...

    Excel 2007 problem...

I'd like to nominate Microsoft for a large spanking. What the heck were they thinking... taking a program with a huge installed user base, which has been using the thing for maybe 20 years, and reprogram it so that it vaguely resembles the previous versions? It's like they fired all their...

Formating TRUE and FALSE as a check box

OH, I found the secret button... you have to UNclick the Design mode button before the object becomes active. Now I see a difference in the ComboBox tool... The forms version enters a sequential number in the linked cell, the controls version enters a copy of the item selected. I'm guessing...

Formating TRUE and FALSE as a check box

I still don't get the Control Toolbox version. I found the properties box and typed in a cell for it to link (don't seem to be able to just pick a cell like with the Forms version), but the silly check box won't allow me to check/uncheck. Whenever I click it, it just lights up the...
