Question about dry sump set up.

Will, Thanks for the info, Peterson does not have much experience with this Dart block. This particular engine has one drain back hole at the front (timing chain area) and four elongated valley drains inbetween the left and right lifter banks running parallel with the motor. I suspect you...

Question about dry sump set up.

Hello all, I have a little M Dart SBC iron block in the shop today. I am in the process of plumbing it for dry sump (5 stage) and have a question about the drilling of the block. There is a boss cast on the right rear section of the block above the bell housing lip. According to Dart (who...

    Best bore-stroke ratio?

I was always taught that horse power is governed by nothing more than the revolutions of an engine and is restricted by volumetric efficiency. I am sure that it's a little more complicated than that. But I have seen many successful racers using a bigger bore to stroke ratio than 1 to 1. Mainly...

    Best bore-stroke ratio?

I follow what you are saying. I was asking more about the piston ring contact area with regards to an increase in diameter and ignoring stroke all together. Wouldnt a 1/16 tall ring with a 4.030 bore have more contact patch area that the same ring with a 4.00 bore? Josh

    Best bore-stroke ratio?

Super Kyle mentioned that the short stroke/big bore engine would have less friction due to less ring travel. I am curious though if the friction benefits gained from lack of stroke would somewhat be canceled out by the increase in piston ring contact area with a larger bore? Just a thought. Josh

    Crankshafts - Forged vs. Billet

Lets not forget that there are many variables besides crankshaft heat treating, journal chroming, shot peening, tuffriting, etc. to consider. For instance - material selection and twist or non-twist forgings are two big ones. Josh
