Max torque area is the engines best efficieny range.
Any thing you do the keep mixture speed up, helps enhance torque.
Same goes for the exhaust. Keep the tubing diameter small to keep the gas speed up without going into restriction.
Look at most modern engines, they have intake tuning of one...
Some of these engines were turboed from the factory.
They are used in stock car racing in my areas and those guys turn them over 8000 rpm in modified form.
Ford motor sports sells variations of these engines and I believe there are used in Formula class racing or one of the entrance classes.
I still fail to see exaxtly what is being ask about emissions output because the base regs are the EPA and some states make them even tighter.
Is the question how much emsissions before the cats clean up the input or what is in the exhaust after the cats have acted?
Presently, the OBDII control...
Having 3 different Ford tensmissions with shift quality changes, it is still subjective, application based and what the driver expects from it.
In my C4 with a shift kit mod, at low power loading the shifting is just precision but under heavey throttle the shifting becomes very firm and to the...
I don't have my Winters catalog handy but they make the torque tubes, ball mounts and market crank flanges for mostly Chevrolet engines and some other applications.
We run FORD so there is not much available to us at the engine end of things so we have our parts manchined so we can hook up the...
We still use closed drive shafts today in open wheel sprint race cars.
They are about 3 feet long.
The torque tube is bolted to the quick change housing.
At the motor, there is no transmission. The crank has a ring flange bolted to the crank and the U joint bolts to that.
The end of the torque...
Ford 4.6 and 5.4L mod motors use a DPFE to measure exhaust pressure accross a restriction in the EGR pipe to tell what the flow conditions are for EGR gas recirculation.
It is a 0 to 5 volt device.
This detects any loss of pressure due to a leak, excessive pressure, plugged EGR port and inop EGR...
Pat has pretty well sumed up the issue.
This motor is a Ford 4.6L mod SOHC V8 type that is fully PCM controlled.
There is no ignition timing adjustment possible, or mixture changes unless made in the program.
The 'roll on' from a closed throttle and apparent missing, is at a time when the...
Lets regroup and begin again.
In researching this problem, I found a paper addresed at SAE on 'Automotive Ignition Tranfer Efficiency'.
The paper addresses all the items I have been thinking about and seeing in fact, in the chase of the problem.
Series resistance in the secondary circuit kills...
The boots are the next item.
I have found that information about this subject is a bit rare but did find a paper written on advances in ignition tranfer efficiency, that deals in part with the same issue, of plug center resistance.
Most plug resistance is thought to be there only for RFI...
Thanks Mike, these are the tech items that make possible sense because there is not much info on this kind of problem.
The coils are totally sealed in a bakelite case with potting that is still sealed and sound but that dosn't mean internal damage has not been done.
The latest plugs have 400...
What I didn't say was how this all started.
The OEM plugs had 53,000 miles on without a problem.
They were changed only for maintaince and not for running problems.
The replacments lasted about 15,000 miles before missing started to gradually come in.
The next set of the same new type lasted 300...
I need some insight on specifically what happens at the plug when the gaps cannot be fired for any reason such as a very lean misture, excessive gap or a short.
The plugs have center electrode resistance anywhere from 500 to 5000 ohms.
Does the spark attempt to find ground to the shell in these...
The dealer has to use the factory pads and lining to be in compliance with their obligations.
I would try a different set of frictions since there has been no improvment with OEMs. The factory is not always best on everything.
The heat vs friction ramp rate is importent as well as the material...
We have a rule to stay with that gives us a 16 sq.ft. area limit.
Question is which would be the better configuration for down force, a wide short or a narrow longer wing.
Thanks.
Further, if the point the sweril is introduced is to far away from the inlet valve any effect would be all but lost by the time the air gets to the valve.
In fuel injection, the fuel is introduced near the valve at about the last part of the total tract and would see little effect by that...
Ford has the PATS system that is a reciever to detect the coded keys.
This system has a bus to the processor and the program block containing the vehichle ident info.
If the path is not complete the engine will not be premited to start.
I to had an ocassion the have an alarm for about 30 seconds...
Chevrolet will be offering one in about 2 years.
It has already been announced.
Ford had plans but don't know where they are with it.
It's going to happen.
I think you need to look at this from another point of view.
The cylinder displacment first and what air it will draw (assuming 100% VE.flow).
Then subtract the restrictions offered by each part of the intake tract at wide open throttle and peak rpm, to meet the required operating rpm band.
For...
