    New Laptop for Designing

As Anna said, you need to order the correct machine online. You're going to want a minimum of 8gb of RAM and an approved graphics card. You'll be wasting money otherwise, not just on the computer but on lost time while you struggle to complete projects. Jeff Mirisola, CSWE My Blog

Copy sketch with link to another part

What you can do is insert the part into the new part. You'll have the option of what it is you want to insert, simply make sure that you deselect 'solid bodies', but select 'absorbed sketches'. This will create an externally referenced sketch that will update with the parent sketch. You will...

    SW 2016 slow or crashing

Most graphics cards needed their drivers updated when moving to 2016. Running SolidWorks Rx, after installing 2016, would have provided you with the information. Jeff Mirisola, CSWE My Blog

    SW 2016 slow or crashing

Have to ask the standard question: have you run SolidWorks Rx to see if there are any conflicts? From what you're describing, I'd say your graphics driver needs to be changed. Jeff Mirisola, CSWE My Blog

    Solidworks movable mates.

Take a look at limit mates to control how far you can move the handles. That should, at least, help to lessen the frequency of the handles flipping like that. Jeff Mirisola, CSWE My Blog

    Solidworks built-in icons

I talked to a friend at SolidWorks and, I quote, "you'd have to crack the .dll's and void your warranty." Jeff Mirisola, CSWE My Blog

    Autodesk Inventor

So, I'm thinking you want to post this in the Autodesk forum and not the SolidWorks forum. Just a suggestion. Jeff Mirisola, CSWE My Blog

    Solidworks built-in icons

A simple search within the C:\Program Files\SolidWorks Corp folder for 'transparent' will give you what you want. In this instance, it's a png file. Jeff Mirisola, CSWE My Blog

If you had $1000 dollars which computer would you buy for CAD

drawoh - I suspect his school is supplying the seat, so it's zero cost to the OP. OP - as durablack2 says, you'll probably have graphics issues and could experience more crashes. On some laptops, you can swap out the graphics cards but you'll need to talk to the manufacturer to find out. Jeff...

If you had $1000 dollars which computer would you buy for CAD

The only issue I see is that SolidWorks may have problems running properly where the computer you've picked out doesn't have an approved graphics card. You might want to take a look at ebay for used workstations. Jeff Mirisola, CSWE My Blog
