The driver's handbook of my recently acquired 2008 Volvo S40 D5 (UK model) says if the ABS activates, the brake light pulses.
So far I've only managed to try out the ABS once and that was when a large hare ran out from the hedge at 5:45 a.m on a single track road. Just missed it, by a hare's...
I used to ride a BSA C15 four stroke to college (well, forty years ago I did) and often saw an old boy on an ancient but immaculately kept Francis Barnett 2 stroke (complete with tall windscreen and steel leg guards). A classic "Frantic Barnyard", as we used to call them.
We used to stop at a...
I read some long time ago that BMW's original service indicator system for their fuel injected engines cars took all sorts of inputs to calculate the oil change interval, quite a complicated process.
Then someone realised that just keeping tabs on the amount of fuel run through the engine...
Checked with our company refuelling specialist just now. He says that the anti-static additive is put into the fuel at point of manufacture, i.e well before it gets into the dispensing bowser.
He re-iterated my point that anti-icing additive may sometimes be added at the time of refuelling an...
Yes, this I would agree with. To the best of my knowledge, it's certainly not done as I understood from your original quote:
"Jet A1 will get an injected dose of static inhibitors just before it is loaded onboard an aircraft".
To clarify the situation in my own mind, I'll ask our tame...
I think the mixing of an anti-static additive must be done well before it gets to the aircraft refuelling point. The articles I found via Google search mentioned nothing about this; the only references I did find mentioned an anti-static additive as part of the fuel specifications, presumably...
I have been flying for a living for 35 years.
Aviation fuel bowser hoses are required to be bonded / earthed to the airframe. The bowswer is also bonded to the airframe, via a separate lead to the airframe.
Obviously, the initial static difference between the hose and airframe is discharged...
JSTEVE2,
Starting wasn't straightforward. The engines needed preheat to working temperature and the vehicle was push started but once on boost it took the world speed record for a diesel powered car. The company is JCB and the vehicle is called DieselMax.
Pat, I actually spelled out my original objective in post #1!
Quite a number of folk have had things to contribute (I'm grateful for all of it) and the scope has become wider than I expected. I asked what seemed a simple question in the first place and have received answers on things I didn't...
I agree it will probably produce no more power than a carburettor due to airflow issues already discussed, but as I've already tried to emphasise, this isn't the main aim of the conversion.
I've had practical problems, especially during off road trials with different carbs, which the TBI should...
Yesterday I spoke to the proprietor of CANEMS, who manufacture one of the aftermarket injection systems available in UK. I was assured their system will work well, provided that the single injector has sufficient capacity to provide all the fuel required.
With this in mind I've also been in...
(Quote) If this is a race car, you need to build a race car and stop fussing about with relatively minor problems. (Unquote).
Sorry guys, we're obviously talking at crossed purposes here. This is definitely not a race car and power is certainly not the only priority. If I wanted to build a race...
Brian, I've never heard of a Toyota "v.runner". A Google search of that expression brings up only "4 Runner" on the USA Toyota website but that's a large 4 x 4 and I'm in UK anyway. I presume you mean something else.
The problem with space/size is two fold. Again, I'd like to emphasise that...
dgallup,
Thanks for the advice, much appreciated and I can understand what you are saying. However, I can't fit single port injectors for practical reasons already explained. In an ideal world I would do so, that was my original idea put forward here.
The inlet tract on my setup is 13 inches...
Surely the fuel atomisation can't be any worse than with the original SU carb on the same manifold. The fuel spray will travel through the coolant heated plenum before entering the inlet manifold proper, which also picks up exhaust heat.
I'm not committed to using the Triumph injector, it may...
Brian,
If this doesn't work out I'm considering an engine swap for the only other engine that will easily fit in our tiny car's engine bay.
This is the Suzuki G10A, coupled to a Suzuki Jeep 5 speed gearbox (this little front wheel drive engine rather surprisingly bolts straight on to the 4wd...
Brian, the normal motorcycle injection setup is for a throttle body for each cylinder; usually fitted via a short spigoted adapter, in close proximity to the cylinder head face.
What I meant was that that type of setup can't be done on this small, non-crossflow engine (I don't know of any...
