Does any one have experience with paper bag tubing and collating equipment? It's rather specialized equipment so there doesn't seem to be many manufacturers out there. Please let me know of any manufacturers who currently make this type of equipment and good/bad experiences with them.

Thanks for the links TVP...I'll check them out.
Mike, I'm not sure I understand what you mean. Let's imagine a horizontal shaft with a perpendicular load applied to the middle of the shaft. Are you saying that the shaft just oscillating back and forth only 30 degrees will fail just as soon as...
You guys both brought up good points. Yes, there are some components on the shaft that have inertia and are accelerating and decelerating against stops. I've got pretty good numbers for the dynamic loading on the shaft and have determined the stress. However, the problem I'm trying to wrap my...
Sorry for the confusion. Instead of the shaft revolving about it's axis continuously in the same direction (ex: motor shaft), this shaft rotates about it's axis forward 30 degrees and then back to the start position. I hope this helps clear up the confusion.
Hi. I'm designing a shaft that will be oscillating +/- 15 degrees and I'd like to determine the fatigue strength of the shaft. The problem is that all the equations and information that I can find(Shigley mostly) is for rotating beams with fully reversed stress, not oscillating motion.
Does...
I'd start with CEMA(Conveyor Equipment Manufacturers Association). They have documents specific to the design of belt conveyors and related safety issues.

I'm already using mechanism to make the assembly move, but the airbags are only modeled as solids. Essentially, I need the airbags to change shape as I move the mechanism, and I don't think Pro/E has that ability. I'll probably have to come up with a workaround, like model the airbags in the...
I recall messing with a couple of Pro/E config settings to solve that problem. Take a look at dxf_out_drawing_scale and dxf_out_scale_views.
Hope this helps.

You're correct, a barrel bolt would fit the description I initially supplied. In this application I don't really need to lock it when retracted. The spring can hold it retracted.
I did find what I was looking for from United Bushing.
Thanks,

I'm looking for a hand retractable spring plunger that locks in both the extended and retracted positions. I've already checked with Southco, Vlier, JW Wincoa and a couple of others. Does anyone know who makes such a thing? Most of the plungers on the market can lock when retracted only.
Thanks!
I have an assembly that is using industrial airbags to pivot parts about a shaft. The air bags need to extend and retract while pivoting about 30 degrees. What is the best way to model this? I looked into flexible component modeling, but they can't be kinematically dragged. Any ideas?
I'm...
That's a good question, but you might want to try the Eng-Tips PTC:Pro/Mechanica forum.
I've done a little analysis in Mechanica and I think it will have a problem with a gap. Someone in the forum with more analysis experience may have a workaround.
Thanks for the good practical advice all. I've heard mixed reviews regarding the use of bellows. A couple of people have suggested that the bellows can pull dust in and exacerbate problems. Do they need to have filtered vents on them to allow clean air in when the cylinder extends? Or is it...
Thanks for the advice.
I did a little research on Diamond-Like Carbon coatings and it seems like a good product for mass produced parts. Is it practical to have a just couple of parts coated? Where could I do this? It seems like it requires specialized equipment to perform the coating...
I'm working on an application using pneumatics in a plant that will have airborne cement dust. Does anyone have practical tips for what works and what doesn't in this type of environment? I'm especially concerned about the cylinders, valves, bushings, and bearings(esentially anything that...
It will allow you to change the file type to .dxf if you change the directory first. For some reason Pro/E won't let you save a .dxf in your working directory. If you change the directory the .dxf option magically appears.
We occasionally use a small diameter "gap fill" conveyor roller, depending on the size of the gap. I think it's only an inch or so in diameter. If it's a large gap, I think DVD has the right approach by adding a bed of rollers.
