When placing points by eye on a plane, or similarly placing points on a curve, the default step size is one inch. This makes it impossible to place points with any precision. It is possible, to right click over the step size, and make a new smaller step size, but it only is effective for that...
Long ago, in V4, to make a spline in curve2 I would pick a string of points. To smooth the spline, I would keep hitting 'yes'; every time it would reduce the degree of the curve, so that it drifted from the points and became smoother. It gave the option of selecting certain points that the...

In the past I posted a question asking how to disable the ability to drag elements in the drafting module. The answer came, which was to go to options, drafting, geometry, and then to un-click 'allow direct manipulation.' It worked great!
Now we have gone to V5 Service Pack...
I have a macro program that creates draw curves, which I use for a graph. Previously, it worked fine, but now with V5 R20, it's acting weird. When I try to reflect the curves about a line, nothing happens. When I save the file, and then re-open it, the curves are gone. Is there something in...
I just got a new computer, and now in Catia V5, the menu boxes are irritatingly large. In Windows, I can change the display appearance settings, but they don't carry over to Catia. Is there a way to reduce the size of the menu boxes?
Often when I am picking multiple draw elements, I inadvertently drag one, and it jumps to a new location. Then I have to back up and start all over again. Is there a way to disable the dragging of draw elements?
I have been using the human builder to build mannequins, and then position the arms and legs to the configuration I need. Then, I save the files, but when I leave and then come back to re-open them, the mannequin is back in the default position. This is maddening - does anyone know how to stop...
Hello,
I am in the throes of learning kinematics and creating a simulation file. So far I am making progress, but have run into a wall. Under the 'simulation' function, I pick 'insert' with an interpolation size of .01. This gives one step, and when I play it, it moves okay. Then I save it...
This is a follow-up to my own question, but I have a new question.
I was able to view the vehicle from a point, by using the Photo Editor workbench, to create a camera and then a rendering.
But, the results appear to work only with surfaces; the solid model parts don't appear.
Is this the...
I want to view the vehicle I have modelled from a specific point, at a set distance away from the vehicle.
To do this, I first create a point at say, 50 ft from the vehicle.
Is there a way to specify this as the view point, so the screen shows the vehicle as it looks from 50 ft away?
It would...
I am frequently hiding various lines, pts, etc. And when I want to retrieve certain of these, the easy way would be to access some sort of function to flip to the hidden entity world and pick the ones I want to show. Is there a way to to this? My version is SW2005.
Thank you, Tick; it worked great!
Another question: I know how to move a body (surface) with the move/copy tool, but is there a way to do the same thing with curves? There has to be!

Got a problem: I am lofting a nose cone, which has a non-circular cross section. I have 4 guide curves, and I need to make an additional cross section between the base and the tip. But when I try to create points by intersecting an intermediate plane with the guide curves, I get a message...
Hi there,
I use a spaceball all the time, and often need to rotate the model even in the sketcher mode. But in the sketcher my spaceball won't do rotations. I can still do it with the mouse, but would like to know if there is a way to make the spaceball work.
Thank you all for the help.
Let me simplify the question:
If I have a known actuator that is capable of 10,000 lb of force, and I want to scale it down to a notional one capable of 5,000 lb force, what will be it's size? I know it won't scale linearly, that is be half as big.
