ASME U-Stamp for Surface condenser designed on FV

Is the ASME designed condenser heavier than the HEI design? I am asking this because the vendors has told us that if we want to build it as per ASME the weight will increase by 15 ~ 20%. Consequently it will affect the cost.

ASME U-Stamp for Surface condenser designed on FV

Actually we require ASME U-stamp for ensuring the quality and safety. Is there any other means in case the condenser is designed to HEI which we can use as a safeguard? (just like U-Stamp in case of ASME)

ASME U-Stamp for Surface condenser designed on FV

We are procuring a surface condenser. The heat transfer area of the condenser is around 3500 m2.and one of our requirement mentioned in the RFQ is that the condenser should be U-Stamped. Some of the vendors have replied that since condensers are designed for negative pressure (Full Vacuum),and...

How to open a stuck butterfly valve

"DLiteE30 (Mechanical) 24 Aug 11 16:31 Wow, that's hard to believe. The stem broke when trying to open it with wrench, but you were able to push it open with a rod. Huh. " The yoke from large sized valve was removed and installed on pipe near the valve (with stem going inside pipe through...

How to open a stuck butterfly valve

We have partially succeeded in opening of the valve by inserting a rod into pipe through a hole made in the pipe and pushing valve gate through it. To achieve full flow, bypass was installed by hot tapping. However there is a problem if we need to close the valve in future. How to close the...

How to open a stuck butterfly valve

Its schedule 20 pipe. The cooling water pressure is 5 Kg/cm2.the temperature of the water is around 35 degree centigrade

Opening of in-service Butterfly valve with broken locking pin

we have installed two bypass lines across this valve by ho tapping ( 10" and 12 "), but still the required flow is not passing through it. (Because the cross sectional area of 12" and 10" is less than the area of 24").

How to open a stuck butterfly valve

We have a 24" Wafer type butterfly valve installed on the inlet cooling water line of one of the exchangers.A few days back the valve was closed for taking the exchanger out of service for maintenance purpose. After the maintenance we tried to take the exchange back into service by opening the...

NDE Sequence of newly installed piping

Thank you for replying. But is there any reference mentioning the same.

NDE Sequence of newly installed piping

We have installed new piping for natural gas service. The QA/QC have advised its 100% RT followed by hydrostatic test. But we want to have the hydrostatic test first because the situation is such that we can save some time if we do the hydrostatic test first. Does code place some restriction on...

Leakage from welded diaphragm gasket of Heat Exchanger

Thanks rmw for advice. Your assumption is right, the heater cannot be isolated from the rest of the plant. It needs shutdown of the whole plant (Ammonia Plant. The exchanger is Synthesis converter effluent converter and cools raw synthesis gas with cooling water. We will do this job with our...

Leakage from welded diaphragm gasket of Heat Exchanger

We have tried to tighten the bolts in the vicinity of the leak point, and the leakage actually increased. We have a spare diaphragm but for replacing the diaphragm we have to shutdown the plant (2-3 days outage) which we are trying to avoid. Now in case if the leakage further increases and we...

Leakage from welded diaphragm gasket of Heat Exchanger

We have a leakage of heat exchanger from the diaphragm. The pressure inside is 180 kg/cm2. The diaphragm configuration is attached herewith. Can any body advice: will the tightening be helpful in stopping the leakage?

Leakage from Octogonal Ring Joint flange

Thanks for replying. We succeeded in repairing the flange. We welded the pits and then lapped it using the damaged ring. A new ring was used and now its OK.

Leakage from Octogonal Ring Joint flange

We are facing a leakage from an RTJ 16" #1500 flange. The service of the line is BFW (Boiler Feed Water). Most probably the leakage has formed a groove in the flange seat area. At the moment we don't have portable flange facing machine for repair of the groove. Can we try to build the groove by...

    Thickness Measurement of Condenser Tubes

VPL We have decided to replace some of the tubes during Feb outage. The reason i s that the the new bundle delivery time s beyond February 2011. Anyhow now we are adopting the same strategy of changing some tubes at bottom portion (the most vulnerable portion)and the remaining tubes will be...
