    SW UPDATES/SERVICE PACKS

"I thought GoEngineer is the largest SolidWorks reseller in the western region . . ." No, GeoEngineer is not the VAR in reference. My VAR is headquartered in the SF Bay Area of California. I prefer not to name names and create more problems. Next week corporate will be getting a call from me...

    SW UPDATES/SERVICE PACKS

My sincere appologies to all. Especially to Scott. My frustration level got very high, not typical of me. My VAR has been a real disappointment. They tell me the problem is the SW license deal. They will not or cannot supply me with a DVD. I almost never get a call back from them, etc. My VAR...

    SW UPDATES/SERVICE PACKS

"95% of the world is on some type of Broad brand connection." Not my part of the world. USA by the way. The USA is not 95% Broadband, by a long shot, bud. Not even close. If I could get a DVD fine. Maybe you're right; "If it ain't broke, don't fix it". You probably have something there in...

    SW UPDATES/SERVICE PACKS

I already went through the FAQ section on this question: Is it possible to get SW service packs or updates OTHER than down load? My problem is I do my work at home and only have a dial-up internet access. Previously I was able to get a CD from SW with the updates. My VAR tells me due to...

    4cyl. crank damper

"Kind of flies in the face of the evidence? Do you think we fit them for fun?" Not for fun, but possibly to off-set poor (flexible) basic crank design?? If you have accounts in your design office, "... you got problems". Case in point: The Porsche 944 2.5L & 2.7L inlne fours had no crank...

    4cyl. crank damper

A four cylinder INLINE engine designed in the last 30-40 years or so will not benefit from a torsional crank dampner. Reason is the crank will be built quite robustly (very little harmful rotational harmonics). However, this same engine will exibit violent vibration modes, NOT due to crank...

2618 forged pistons w/0.001" clearance at skirt?

A PROPERLY DESIGNED piston, forged, cast or whatever will require only .001" or so, actual skirt clearance, cold. By properly designed I am inferring that growth is designed into the piston in a predictable, designed manner. Pistons do not expand evenly down, across or in any other...

Load two versions Solidworks on one machine

CBL, Re: "I always make separate copies of everything customised for each version ... just to be extra safe. Just personal preference." Great advice. I have had several "computer" issues the past year resulting in the purchase of two new systems. This is my concern. Seems as though...

Load two versions Solidworks on one machine

Finethread, Thanks for the tip. I have a stand-alone machine. I believe I still need to isolate , Toolbox and Template files outside of of SW 2007 SP 4.0. Is this correct? Thanks for the help. Will

Load two versions Solidworks on one machine

Thank you CBL. I had searched the Solidworks site but got nowhere also. Will

Load two versions Solidworks on one machine

I searched for an answer but do not have all day to search. I am running SW 2007 SP4. I want to load and run SW 2008 SP 0.1 that I received last week. I know this is dooable. I want help in doing so without creating all kinds of "issues". I have received help from this forum before that was...

GEROTOR pump, dry sump engine pressure problem

I think Pat and Smokey are on the cause---air ingestion. If you can look into the oil tank and see a vortex forming as engine speed increases you may have a direct air source to the pump inlet. This is very common on poorly designed dry sump oil reservoirs. This is like watching the coriolis...

    connecting rod bolts with loctite?

I agree with Metalguy. I am assuming the subject rod bolt is automotive and not a lawn mower. Friction keeps the bolt or nut tight and not a thread locking compound. Friction on threads and nut/bolt base is key to non-rotation during engine operation. If sufficient stretch is applied to the...

    Engine Loading ?????

I'm no expert on drag racing. However, it seems to me that the fuel system on this engine is totally RPM dependent and not load sensitive (no manifold pressure feedback). Is this true? If so, engine load and fuel mixture are seldom going to be "correct". Maybe I am missing something here?

Turbulence Induces for increasing burn rate

mattsooty, I totally agree with you. Mass burn rate is not a constant. Variables include, rich/lean, temperatures, turbulence, and other variables.

Turbulence Induces for increasing burn rate

< TIME > Time is the biggest contributor to the phonomonon refered to as spark knock or "detonation". It takes time for the end gases in the chamber to spontaneously ignite. Reduce the available time and there will be no detonation. As stated by prior posts, swirl, tumble, squish, etc., all...

    Building an AIR CANNON, question

smcadman, Do you think this site may be monitored by Dianne Feinstein and, or Sara Brady? If it is, we have problems in my opinion . . .

    9 cyl. radial motorcycle picture

Fabrico is correct. Howard Hughes used Pratt & Whitney R-4360's to power the "Spruce Goose". They were the early "high tension" ignition model engines and had severe engine miss fire at altitude. This was cured by what was called the "low tension" ignition configuration later on in the R-4360...
