Hi All!
As I mentioned at the start of the tread, we tried already 4340 hardened to 45-48 HRC but the gears lasted only for more than a month.
We assumed only portion of one tooth of one gear broke but of coarse it affects all of the gears inside.
At 45-48HRC, 4340 might be brittle already for...
Hi mfgenggear,
Thank you for your comments and suggestions.
For now we already have a team working on the root cause analysis.
As for the gear nomenclature, we used gear design software, generated the 3D model and used it in CAM/CNC machining. For internal gears, we machined it through...
Hi Tmoose,
Thank you for responding.
Please find below answers to your comments/questions:
Nitriding is often too shallow for hardworking gears. I picture the hard candy shell on an M&M.
Carburizing can harden way deeper.

Hi Everyone!
Our torque hub for a certain manufacturing machine broke and upon inspection all the gears - sun gear, planetary gears, ring gears has broken teeth. New OE unit is a made-to-order and will be available in 6 months +. We decided to fabricated (in-house) all gears since we have the...

Hi Guys,
Anybody here have experience using 3D printed metal gears inside gear box?
Are the 3D metal printed now has strength and hardness comparable to parts machined from solid metals?
Currently I am looking at these machines/equipment for 3D printing metal parts (see link...
Hi there!
We are a moldmaker here in the Philippines and we are planning to acquire one new EDM machine to increase our capacity in EDM. Currently we have Robo 20 and Robo 40 that are already aroung 15 years old. We have decided to try other brands and we are now choosing between the two...
Hi Everybody,
Thank you for all the replies. All your suggestions were noted and will be considered in our study. As to the suggestion of my townmate, ornerynorsk, we have a close coordination/contact with the manufacturer and we have followed all their suggestions and inructions but still we...
Hi Everybody,
We have just purchased a new Thermal Spray, Brand: Sulzer Metco; Type/Model: 1016/PPC. At present we are in the process of studying the application/operation and we are encountering problems on poor addhesion of coating materials to the work piece especially at edge portions...
Hi Guys!
I posted this thread 1 year ago... and the 3rd mold that I'm talking about is already mass producing the product in a 200T machine. This machine can't be considered as high speed but this is on the high-end of the conventional type.
The cycle time is 13 sec and we have to control the...
The POT is open to atmospheric pressure with attached stirring paddle used in mixing molten lead to attain reaction that can remove impurities such as Sn, Sb, Cu, etc... The Pot is placed over a gas fired burner that can heat the system up to 1000 deg C.
Hi everybody!
We are about to fabricate a "LEAD POT REACTOR" and we are looking for a material (sheet metal) that can withstand the processing conditions. The POT has to melt and mix a 90 Tons
LEAD at 1000 deg C.
Your inputs are all welcome... Tnx.
Hello Guys!
First of all I would like to thank you all for the suggestions (special mention to Kapitan). Our current
process is the flame cutting of the rivet's head and hammering the shunk out. However, with this process, we have difficulty in hammering out the shunks because the rivets were...
That is what we are doing at present and we don't have problem with the cutting. We just have difficulty in hammering the remaining rivet's part since it already
somewhat fused to the parent metal maybe due to the span of
time that the members were joined together. Does any other
process out...
Hi everybody!
I need help/suggestions on the fastest way to remove rivets from an old/aged railroad bridges without damaging connecting members. We have to do this in more than 50 bridges so we have to do this in the fastest way.
Thanks in advance....

Dear all,
Thank you for the inputs... Right now, our existing mold is running in 350T Toshiba Injection Machine but with 0.3mm shim between Machine's fixed platen and molds top plate to compensate product offset. Set machine parameters are as follows; 95% of Injection pressure and speed and...
Hi! I'm a mold designer and is currently managing
a design team in plastic injection molding.
For the past 15 years, we are designing, fabricating and injecting industrial products such as automotive battery plastic components, automotive lenses and numerous plastic components. But we are new...
