Hydrostatic testing for aboveground piping-NFPA 13

I am reviewing a document on testing a wet pipe sprinkler system . Piping is aerial, with hanger supports. On NFPA 13, I found information for hydrostatic testing under Chapter 10-Underground Requirements, but I cannot find requirements for aerial piping. I suppose that due to my lack of...

ASME B16.9 Welded vs Semless Cap

Dear Colleagues, According to ASME B16.9, para. 1.3, there is no any objection for longitudinal seam fabricated fittings, moreover, there is no limit for quantity of seams. My concern is about testing, taking into account that tests mentioned under sections 9 DESIGN PROOF TEST and 10 PRODUCTION...

    Biphasic flow pipeline û B3!.4 or B31.8?

For designing a 16”, carbon steel pipeline, for diluted crude oil transportation, we have found that flow is approximately 50% liquid and 50% gas. We have read both the scopes for ASME B31.4 and B31.8, but we are doubtful about the applicable standard for this case. We would appreciate very much...

IFR atmospheric storage tanks - double deck vs single deck

For an atmospheric storage tank, capacity 170 Mbls, internal diameter 44 m, fluid methanol, it is required internal floating roof, full contact with the fluid. Code is API 650 11th ed. My concern is regarding the type of IFR. Single or double deck?

    API 650 App. K - shell thickness

Regarding API 650, 11th ed. with Addendum 1, I am doubtful about some statements regarding wall thickness. According to para. 5.6.4.2,"required shell thickness for each course shall be the greater of the design shell thickness plus corrosion allowance (t1d) or the hydrostatic test shell...

    NFPA 30:Minimum Tank Spacing

Thank you very much, lightecho. I have to verify spacing between two aboveground storage tanks for methanol service, both 138' diameter, 69' height. According to NFPA 30 - 2000 edition, if diking is provided, minimum spacing shall be 1/4 sum of adjacent tank diameters.

    NFPA 30:Minimum Tank Spacing

I have no available at this time the 2008 edition of NFPA 30, and I need to know if there is any change for Table 2.3.2.2.1 Minimum Tank Spacing (Shell to Shell), as it is shown in the 2000 edition.

    Pipeline Sabotage

Mr. Greg Lamberson wrote: "Granted the more modern day pipelines are generally built with risk & terrorism incorporated into the designs" My question is: The provisions regarding terrorism, are included under B31.4 and B31.8? or, are they part of engineering practices of design companies?

API 5L SR4 - NDT for seamless pipe

I am preparing a Purchase specification for API 5l X-52 26" OD seamless pipe. Regarding NDT, API Specification 5L, Forty-Third Edition, March 2004 (which is still in force), makes reference to Supplementary requirement SR4, Appendix F, but... There is no SR4 paragraph under App F. My question...

    API 10000

In thread thread 809-60021, and in some high pressure fitting and valve catalogs, I have read the term "API 10000". I had thought that it was a reference to an API standard, but, I could not find that term in the API website (www.api.org). My question is: What is API 10000?

    Flanges

c1defence, May be you heard about slip-on flanges (see a brief explanation at: http://www.pipingdesigners.com/Training%20-%20section%201d.htm ). Use of this kind of flanges depends on type and run of the line. Notice that if besides the flange installation, it is necessary to perform welds on...

monolithic insulating joints or insulating kits?

I am involved in a natural gas 36”OD, API 5L (grade not yet defined) pipeline project in Venezuela. Regarding Cathodic protection for valve stations, a colleague told me that use of monolithic insulating joints is obsolete; therefore insulating kits (gasket, sleeves and washers) must be used. My...

Buried Pipeline - Acceptable out of roundness

I have to calculate the effects of live loads on a buried pipeline, 26". Among those effects, some ovalisation may occur. My question is: What is the acceptable maximum out of roundness, which will not obstruct cleaning and inspection tool passage?
