AutoCAD R14 to Autodesk Inventor seems to be more natural - same vendor, same drawing file format, maybe same reseller. Autodesk Product Design Suite contain both AutoCAD and Inventor, plus other useful design tools and cloud services.

You can use _any_ font which contains full Unicode set of characters/symbols. The symbol codes will be the same. Many TrueType fonts (e.g. Arial Unicode) contains these symbols.

CAL or CEL? CAL (CALS) are raster files - this format is supported in AutoCAD. And CEL are Microstation block files - you can also open them in AutoCAD (as DGN files).
