    expansion joints

Thank you ColonelSanders. Here is a sketch of it. The temperature is 100C. Pressure is 690kPa. http://files.engineering.com/getfile.aspx?folder=afaf3abb-951c-4606-a576-00a9b6f7dfdf&file=BELLOW.pdf

    expansion joints

hi all, I am doing a stress analysis for pump suction piping. The pipe is connected directly to an expansion joint. Then there is an elbow next to the expansion joint. A support is installed at the piping right after the elbow. I would like add an directional anchor at the support to limit the...

    Guides on piping

Yes, there is an anchor between the loops. If I leave one guide in between the two tie-in, the stress is low. Can I leave the tie in as it is?

    Guides on piping

Here is a picture of the line. I added guides in the middle of the two tie-ins. Thanks, http://files.engineering.com/getfile.aspx?folder=e46dd5fb-ab4e-4c88-ae46-4293c24f25a0&file=hp_steam.jpeg

    Guides on piping

Thanks John. We have a line tie-in to the header right next to he expansion loop. I cannot add a guide near this expansion loop because it will cause high stress on the branch line. Is this case, can I just add the guide on one side of the expansion loop?

    Guides on piping

Hi all, Is there a standard to decide where to add guides on piping? Thanks

    Pipe support material

For carbon steel line, you can use carbon steel for shoes. But for SS pipe, if you use carbon steel for shoes, it will have bimetal welds on the pipe. We usually try to avoid bimetal welds on piping. So for the pipe shoe, you can use clamped ones (the clamps will be SS).

Pipe shoe welded to a tee

Hi there, Is it a good design to weld pipe shoe to a tee? We have a piping design that has a pipe shoe welded to a tee. I personally don't like it since there is turbulence there. But our designer doesn't want to relocate it since it will involve the redesign of structure. Does anybody have...

Valve seats for 1500# and 2500# ball valve

Hi, I try to determine what would be the seat material for ANSI 1500# and 2500# ball valves. I found some companies use nylon seats, some companies use RTFE seats. Which one is the better? What are the differences between them? Thanks,

Minimum volume required to register as a pressure vessel.

I was told there was a mininum volume required for vessel to be registered as a pressure vessel. But I cannot find it in ASME code. Can anybody tell me what the volume is? Where can I find it? Thanks,

    Cryogenic ball valve seat material

What seat material can be used for cryogenic ball valve in sour service? The temperature range is -198C-32C. Pressure ratings are 150#, 300# ,600# and 900# line. Thanks,

Inlet water for gas fired steam boiler

Thanks everybody. I talked to the water treatment vendor. He suggested we can use evaporator for our case. I wasn't very familiar with wastewater evaporator to avoild scaling. Is water treatment required for evaporator?

Inlet water for gas fired steam boiler

Thank you all for you help. I know that boiler water needs to be treated before going to the boiler. The reason I am asking this question is that I asked for a quote from a water treatment unit vendor. And I was told that since the boiler pressure is low (at atmosphere pressure) and there is...

Inlet water for gas fired steam boiler

Hi, What are the requirements for the inlet water of a gas fired steam boiler? Since impurities in water cannot be 100% removed, how to solve the scaling problem in the boiler? Thanks,

Nitrogen and Aluminum in SA 105N

Thank you metengr. Is 0.001% of Arsenic and 0.002% of Antimony in SA 105 acceptable?

Nitrogen and Aluminum in SA 105N

What is the maximum amount of Nitrogen and Aluminum in SA 105N? ASME specifications did not give the requirements for these two elements. But the mill certification I received from manufacturer indicated the amount of 0.012% of nitrogen and 0.028& of aluminum in SA 105N. Is this acceptable...
