All,
i've recently come of a project in asia where we installed flame arrestors on tanks with atomspheric vents on materials with a flash point of 0-10 C. I'm fairly certain this was a local code requirement. I am now working on an older site and the tank vents of similar flash point dont have...
All, we have a storage tank containing fluid of an SG of 0.7. We are installing a larger tank onto site. I'm told it works if we reduce the design margin on the codes from 1.5 to 1.2.
I'd like some candit coments from engineers on your perspetive of this change. We dont process any fluids...
Does anyone know of a steam seperator supplier that will allow a unit with a flanged drain? rather than a screwed fitting..
we want to use a unit for a liquid knock out but on a process service..
e.g. as a knock out drum..
but we need flanges for our 300 lb pipe spec on all connections,.,.
Sorry for the confusion Don,
API does have a method to size the capacity of valves.
So does ASME..
1. API 521 Gives a rating case
2. API 520 gives a valve capacity
3. ASME Sec XXX - Gives a capacity.
Or rather some relief valve vendors only use 3 not 2.
Dear Conserned Relief experts:
For various reasons we purchase ASME relief valve but we actually work in API on our site. I've no experience in ASME rating but our supply vendor uses ASME calculations.
I am curious: For ASME: Does a rating document exsit - eg.g that gives you a basis for...
On inlet loss calculations do you include the Bursting disc in the pressure drop before the valve...or
do you down rate the valve capacity and exclude it..
I believe as rates increase the density will drop of the liquid. Therefore unless i change the calibration density will be running the unit at higher rates (as we are now). I want to calculate the sg to input so we ensure the vessel is not overfilled.
it is an existing unit so the manufacture...
...Average density is the mixture average density of steam/water.
i Pressure on Level transmitter =
+ Water phase only phase pressure (density * gh)
+ transition phase (densityaverage * gh)
I dont seen how to convert transition phase density / height or calculated from flow. I've read...
Dear sirs,
We are upgrading our steam seperators/demisters to prevent wet steam. A contact company has suggested installing steam quality meters...to measure wet fraction (i think)
Has anyone had any success with these meters and their prespective on how effective they are?
(i've repeated...

Dear Sirs/expert peoples...
I am looking some useful references which describe typical standards used for generated steam in non-fired boilers..
specifically,
> Acceptable levels of wetness???(0.1% 0.5% to avoid corrision errosion)
> typical system setups?
ie superheat or just demister...
I aggree the report is very interesting. The video highlights the issue in high quality.
Most chemical sites wont have that much storage of bottles but it is certainly something i will pay more attention for new installations. Normally a slight "pop" on an RV is not normally that much of a...
Dear sirs,
I've read the comment on spirax's web site that the rate of change on a kettle type re-generator can cuase wet steam.
I'm having a hard time visualising this??? i would have thought that the overall rate is what impacts the capacity as most have a seperator device on the outlet...
Dear sirs,
I'm looking for some references here. I am investigating a steam generator which is subject to rapid changes in steam generation rates. I'd like to understand what is the best technlogy to evaluate to manage these rates of change such that they done create wet steam and what are...
Dear All,
I am after some general advice on or pointers to usefull articles or background reading on which valves/pumps are normally selected by the "shutdown systems" plant shutdown button.
So far in our process hazard review we have worked through our percivable senerios and installed...
