Slight niggle though. When I restore my settings from the Copy Settings Wizard, the problem reappears.
Bit of a pain, but at least I can save my files again.
Many thanks for the suggestions all.
I'm using my laptop today in order to get the work done, as I'm in a bit of a rush. But I think I'll set tomorrow aside for some housekeeping. I'm quite confident that a re-install will fix the problem, and while I'm at it a tidy up couldn't hurt.
That...
Bugger. I had a feeling somebody might suggest a repair/reinstall. My installation disc is at home in my laptop after doing a re-install on that over the weekend.
Look's like it might be a wasted day :(
...box displays, I fill out my file name and description, press OK. It does everything it should do, but just forgets to save the file. The "Part1*" at the top of my screen does not change, and the new file does not appear in Windows Explorer.
I have tried saving assemblies, parts, drawings...
Whilst I'm on the subject, can anybody see a problem with the following part numbering system.
Projects and Products etc. are identified by a four digit identifier, as below.
0236 - Project number
0236-101,102,103... - First, second, third component.
0236-001,002,003... - First, second, third...
tph216,
You've managed to explain my situation better than I can!
I'll give BS 7000 and BS/ISO 10007 a read and see what I can take from them to implement here.
I think I can make my life a little easier if I improve my system, but I think the organisational culture won't change until the...
Hi Alex,
We do not supply directly to the auto market, and I am based in the UK. Getting this company to conform would be a nightmare task if we did! Although I'm sure it would benefit us in the long run.
Cheers
I think I might be trying to be too strict with my filing system. Thus far I have recreated an explorer style file structure in my vault, in which I try to organise everything nicely. Matt Lombard's SW Administration book warns against this, I am going to take his advice I think.

Morning all,
Some of you may recall that I have asked about document management in the past (along with many others), and I got some great advice when I did. But this time it's a little different.
Over the past year or more, I have adopted Workgroup PDM (as a solo user), which was a great...
Hello All,
I am designing an assembly using the top down approach. When I create a new part (Insert Components-->New Part), and choose an existing face of another part as the plane to sketch on, I cannot add any relations between the new part sketch and the existing geometry.
For example...
I decided just to go ahead and transfer it all at work, seemed the safer option and besides the weather is too nice to be transferring PDM vaults at home on my laptop.
Afternoon all,
I want to create, set up and trial a vault on my laptop and then transfer it to my work server once I am happy with it.
My reasons are...
1) More time to trial the vault.
2) I can't seem to get 5 minutes to myself in the office.
I am the only person using the vault, as I am...
I was wondering what programs you guys use other than Solidworks? And what you use them for? I'm trying to add a few strings to my bow...and have a bit of fun at the same time. I figure what better time than a recession to add to your current skills.
I've started to get interested in 3D...
I like the idea of creating folders per 100 jobs or so. I use a 4 digit project number prefix before each assembly/part file number so that would be an easy way to find project files in my vault. (I did try entirely dumb part numbers but it didn't work for me.)
Thanks, that's helped a lot!
