Since this is a forcemain sewer line isn't it likely that sewer gas is being generated by the effluent
as it rots? I know the pH changes substantially from the pumping station to the point of discharge...the constiuents
of the effluent would certainly harbor some biological growth.
That being...
bimr...thanks for the response. The attachment was very interesting.
Increasing the velocity isn't a simple option as
1) The continuous rate of generation of effluent isn't high enough
2) If the flow were changed to intermittent with starting velocities >3.5 ft/sec the pumping station would...
...pipe on occasion noticed no significant buildup of debris, there is 1 20" valve butterfly valve and it is fully open.
I have included my math for f*L/D*v^2/2g on the sketch and came up with ~ 1ft of drop...even taking into account the fittings/etc it can't get to 20ft...something else is...
2 3/8" Cookie...10" line...sched 40.
Velocity in the line doesn't exceed 3 fps.
My rule of thumb is that the velocity required to lift an object in a situation like this must be greater than the free fall velocity it would experience in a stagnant line.
Had a bit of an oops moment earlier when contractor were performing a hot tap on a glycol line in that the pilot bit broke
off and the coupon dropped into the pipe. The next thing the pipe
does is run 50 ft up. Are there any rules of thumb for velocity
required to carry an object through that...
The dual PRVS (of which one is in service and the other is in standby...done so that either one can be recertified without takind down the affected equipment) tee back into a common discharge pipe. Some of these discharge pipes are within 15 ft of the ground (not compliant with ASHRAE 15 which...
Its the US...the relief valves themselves are configured in a dual arrangement with a selector valve. They share a common discharge pipe and that is the issue. The reliefs are recertified every 5 years.
Howdy...I have a facility which has ammonia relief valve discharge piping that is well under 15 ft from the ground. The protected equipment includes, among other things, the primary suction header for the facility and it can't be easily taken out of service (has never been in 30 years).
I'm...
Hello all,
I'm about to bid work involving installing new underground natural gas pipe with a requisite pressure test...I'm trying to find a reference for how to support pipe during the pressure test that is uncovered. I know there are guidelines for how many feet of what diameter can be...
Can someone point me in the direction of how to learn more about the science and engineering of distillation?
I am a process engineer with responsibility for, among things, an alcohol distillation unit with a molecular sieve dehydrator. I'd like to learn more about the engineering that governs...
Can someone point me in the direction of the properties of saturated ethyl alcohol at different temps and pressures?
Density & enthalpy would be great...superheated properties would be really really appreciated.
Something like what NIST offers for certain fluids...
Can someone point me in the direction of how to learn more about the science of engineering of distillation?
I am a process engineer with responsibility for, among things, an alcohol distillation unit with a molecular sieve dehydrator that I've inherited. I'd like to learn more about how and...
A few weeks ago I had a voicemail from a cold-calling salesman regarding some equipment that if mounted in a compressed air header could be used to determine the
magnitude of and when system leaks occur. I dismissed it without retaining any contact info as I thought it to be very likely a waste...
I have a process in which liquified CO2 with less than 1ppm of entrained O2 stored at 240 psig on one side of a ball valve with air at a few psig on the other appears to not only leak CO2 through the valve (small amounts) but the CO2 appears to absorb O2 through it as well (very small amounts...
Instead of doing it myself, with equipment and expertise I don't have, are their experts in this field that could be hired? Can someone point me in the right direction regarding them?
The original company that did the design did a surge analysis and it may still be fine. This company's...
