    Tie Constraint for Welded Edges

Hello, I was wondering if it is possible to apply a tie constraint in a particular step in Abaqus ( while running a multi step analysis). My simulation is a 3 step process. The first step involves the assembly of 2 concentric cylinders, by making a plug move through the inner tube, expanding...

Abaqus explicit - tube drawing model

...My end goal is to obtain the residual stresses post assembly. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks ....................... *Heading ** Job name: Job-3 Model name: Axisymmetric-Explicit-Copy ** Generated by: Abaqus/CAE 6.12-2 *Preprint, echo=NO, model=NO, history=NO...

    Nonlinear Resudial Stresses

Ok I faced a similar issue a while back where I had to input residual stresses from a static analysis into a fully coupled thermal stress model. I figured that there isn't a way to specify initial residual stresses in Abaqus withouyt using the subroutine. this is what i did Step1 : Fully...

What is the default initial temperature used by Abaqus

What is the reference temperature used by Abaqus in the event that an initial temperature isn't specified by the user ? My guess is that it uses 0 C or 273 K, but I would like to reconfirm the same. Thanks

    Residual stresses using thermal expansion

settler - i haven't had the need to model a physical fluid cavity at any point. but i looked around online and one post had suggested that if it is required to have a fluid then you would probably have to run a co-simulation of abaqus explicit and CFD. i had suggested a box ( ie a closed region)...

Initial stress imported from .odb file

Dnov - I'm just curious how to 'request' a restart file. My analysis bails out as it cannot find the *.res file. Your reply could be very helpful.

stress analysis followed by coupled temp disp

hello, my goal is to perform a static analysis on a 3 cylinder composite by applying an internal pressure on the inner cylinder to begin with. this would be to assemble the cylinders by bringing them in contact. once this is done i would like to perform a fully coupled temp disp analysis where...

    Residual stresses using thermal expansion

create a box or cylinder that contains your liq. i would use a box as you dont have to deal with cylindrical coordinates. i will leave it to you as how to how design this box based on your problem. create a horizontal partition to separate the liquid nitrogen region from the other region. you...

    Non-uniform heat generation

I would like to know if there is a way to output the heat generation rate (W/m^3) in the Abaqus odb.I have a curved beam to which a non-uniform heat generation is applied. Qgeneration = f(thickness, length) I would like to get an output of the applied heat generation to the curved beam just to...

Negative contact pressures. CPRESS negative in tension ?

Thanks for your help. Under normal behavior , I had unchecked the 'allow separation after contact ' box. That was causing a negative contact pressure.

Negative contact pressures. CPRESS negative in tension ?

Thought I'll attach a separate plot of COPEN .http://files.engineering.com/getfile.aspx?folder=0ee50de8-88af-4b6e-9586-f77e6a064d23&file=COPEN_plot.jpg

Negative contact pressures. CPRESS negative in tension ?

...this with a middle tube being a perfect cylinder. Also , I have this file attached that talks about the subroutine DLOAD and states that " *DLOAD defines pressure (i.e. compressive normal stress) to be positive, so we apply tensile loading by making the pressure negative." Does this...

Negative contact pressures. CPRESS negative in tension ?

and here is the COPEN plot . Thankshttp://files.engineering.com/getfile.aspx?folder=22e330c1-611f-4cdf-b1bd-e2bc13a4a70a&file=COPEN_plot.jpg

Negative contact pressures. CPRESS negative in tension ?

I did plot COPEN for the outer tube and my COPEN values are of the order of 8e-10 meters and corresponding contact pressures of the order of -3E06Pa . In another model when I had a separation of 4e-06 meters I got a zero contact pressure. Is this because , the value 2e-11 meters is so small...

Negative contact pressures. CPRESS negative in tension ?

I can relate to what you are saying. So does open up , the contact pressure on the slave surface will be zero since no contact is being made. Is that right ? I'm seeing contact pressures of the order of -4E06 Pa to -2E09 Pa Thanks for your help.

Negative contact pressures. CPRESS negative in tension ?

Hi, I have a working model of 3 concentric cylinders with the cylinder in the middle being the master surface and the other two being the slave surfaces. I have a pic attached of the model , which would better represent my question. A gap opens up between the middle cylinder and the outer...

Symmetric model generation / results transfer

The analysis user's manual section 7.8.1 states that the *SYMMETRIC MODEL GENERATION option is not available for models defined in terms of an assembly of part instances. I guess you cannot use it when you have an assembly of instances.

    sequentially coupled analysis

Yeah I did the 2D axisymmetric analysis and was looking to do a symmetric model generation to convert it to 3D , but the user's manual states that the symmetric model generation cannot be used for models defined in terms of an assembly of part instances. So I guess this option is ruled out ?
