You may need to create four split surfaces with the intersection of the four surfaces at the location you want to connect the beam. A split surface will make the mesher create nodes along the surface edge.

The Loctite adhesives have a lot of versatility. You may want to contact your local Loctite sales rep to get their recommendation.
Regarding the bolt design, I would recommend referencing Fundamentals of Machine Component Design by Juvinal and Marshek. I find this book invaluable for bolted...
Hello Arranot,
There are several factors to consider when purchasing an FEA package. The factors I used were as follows: Price, Ease of use with the UI, Customer support times available, Online tutorials or support, and speed of processing a complex geometry model with simple supports and...
Hello EspElement,
In addition to the welding book by Blodgett please consider Fundamentals of Machine Component Design by Juvinall and Marshek. There is an entire chapter dedicated to design with threaded fasteners, with an example that matches the information given in the DANotes you linked...
I'm currently working on finding a stronger and tougher end cone for torsion springs. Presently my design is using the overhead door standard of a cast aluminum part. These are about the best parts for the cost, but it seems they have a tendency to crack in our application. Is there a...
I’m on a quest to safely wind a torsion spring. My search has turned up something called the EZ-Set torsion spring system; however, I would like other possible ideas. I believe the EZ-Set torsion spring system will not work with the spring I’m looking to torque. The spring that needs torque...
I would be hesitant using a bolt design software for plastic bolts. I’m sure they would work great for steel bolts, and possibly for SST bolts, but plastic is a whole different creature.
Some things that the plastic may affect are fatigue, creep, and stress concentrations in threads. As far...
If you haven’t already looked at rolling contact stress I would start there. If you have a copy of Fundamentals of Machine Component Design by Juvinall and Marshek check out chapter 9.13, or net search for “rolling contact stress.” If you do not have a copy of Fundamentals of Machine...
I was looking in Marks' Handbook for MEs and I did not find this conversion, although I did not look very hard. If you happen to know what page it would be I'd be very gratefull.
Second question, what is "d" when looking at a valve. Let's take for example a valve with the following...
We have decided to change the design to bolt the L-bracket to the flat plate. Thank you all for the suggestions. I have considered all of them.

Thank you all for the responses. I’ve presented by manager with 5 possible design solutions: 1) pre-weld bending, 2) post weld bending, 3) pre-weld heating, 4) post weld heating / straightening, and 5) added gussets to prevent deflection. Now it’s time to weigh the merits and flaws of each...
"How flat do you want the plate after welding?"
This is a good question. On two corners of the plate a shaft protrudes out opposite of the 3x3 tubes about 6-inches. This shaft has a plastic roller on it. Any deflection in the plate due to welding or pre-welding manufacturing, as the plate has...
I am faced with a design problem that involves welding bending a flat plate. The flat plate is 23.5x23.5x.38 –inches. I’m welding a two 3.00x3.00-inch tubes about 9 inches apart along the center line of the plate. In addition I’m welding 2 L brackets near the center of the plate about 3...
Thank you for the information. I should pick up a copy of "Physical Metallurgy Handbook." With this information it appears as though I have the best SST for the job. I think it's time to find a new sensor for the job.
Sreid, the 1mm gap is not a physical limit, however, the error involved in...
The sensor is the latter of the two examples given.
Based on the information from the web site provided by Metengr and some logic I would draw the conclusion that the ratio of carbon to other alloys determines the "saturation magnetization."
Comparing the ratios of carbon to other alloys...
Metengr,
It appears as though the linked web site is a nice article about magnetic stainless steel and a little advertisement for the company's own Chrome Core series of SST. Do you have personal experience in comparing the Chrome Core 8 to a 430 SST? Does the 20% increase in saturation...
I'm working on a project which involves an inductive sensor detecting a flag. The flag is currently made of 430 SST and is 12mm wide. The sensor is a 12mm sensor with a nominal sensing range of 2mm. The flag is on a roller and rotates at an unknown speed with the sensor mounted over the...
I'm designing a cover for a piece of equipment that may impact a vehicle. This impact will be at a speed no faster than 5 ft/s and could be parallel or perpendicular to the painted surface. This cover will be made of PVC and I get to choose the durometer of that PVC. What durometer of PVC...
I would reconsider the stainless steel fasteners. The company I'm working for uses SST fasteners to join painted carbon steel parts and we do not have any problems with corrosion of disimilar metals. I should mention that the parts are in an enclosed environment with softened water sprayed on...
