This research report, based on a survey of 234 product development professionals, examines the current state of Internet of Things (IoT) adoption by product design teams, its perceived importance, and what features and capabilities teams consider important when making decision about adding IoT functionality to their products.
It is a follow-up to a similar report published in late 2017. The 2017 report discovered that IoT development was further along than expected. This latest report found that in the 12 months since then, IoT adoption has continued to grow, and its perceived importance has also risen considerably.
Here are a few select insights from the report:
- As expected, IoT functionality in product development became more prevalent. However, that increase was not uniform. Instead, the latest data shows a more discerning view of where the most value is to be gained.
- Respondents who held roles of manager and above generally considered implementing IoT enabled features to be more important than other members of a product development team.
- Teams who are evaluating IoT enabled products are exploring a wide range of business models and product features
The data supporting these findings, and many others, are presented in charts and graphics in this 22 page report. Complete the form on this page to download this research report. This report is sponsored by Siemens Mindsphere, the open IoT operating system.
