Research Report: What do Design Teams Really Want from their CAD Software?

During the Summer of 2017, ENGINEERING.com surveyed 230 product development professionals about their use of CAD systems. Our analysis focused on their level of satisfaction with their CAD systems across several dimensions of performance.

This research report is designed to help product development teams benchmark their CAD experience relative to other teams.

Here are a few selected insights that we gleaned from the survey data:
  • While 88% of respondents said that it was important to standardize on a single CAD system, less than half of them reported doing so.
  • Users reported dissatisfaction with many aspects of their CAD software, especially cost and ease of use.
  • Reports of dissatisfaction correlated strongly and negatively with success in achieving on-time product launches and minimizing product development costs.
