We surveyed engineers about their preferred tools for various design through manufacturing tasks. The results show some interesting insights, including:
- CAD has overtaken pencil and paper as the most popular engineering design tool
- Desktop PCs are most commonly used for relatively structured tasks, such as CAD work, while pencil and paper are preferred for less structured work such as requirements gathering
- Tablets have been used by a minority of engineers, but those who have used them report high satisfaction
