Report: Matching Engineering Tools to Tasks

Engineers are increasingly using digital tools to complete their engineering tasks. Mobile devices, for example, are proliferating. But are they really useful for engineering?

Download your complimentary copy of the survey report, "Matching Engineering Tools to Tasks" to find out.

We surveyed engineers about their preferred tools for various design through manufacturing tasks. The results show some interesting insights, including:

  • CAD has overtaken pencil and paper as the most popular engineering design tool
  • Desktop PCs are most commonly used for relatively structured tasks, such as CAD work, while pencil and paper are preferred for less structured work such as requirements gathering
  • Tablets have been used by a minority of engineers, but those who have used them report high satisfaction
