my point is in new TTS qualification, do we need to consider final expansion after welding or just do the welding and proceed for destructive analysis. ASME IX is not specific about this point, however, it added expansion as essential variable in case it is required prior to welding.

i have seen many manufacturers just doing the welding and proceed for destructive analysis, however, i would like to check the best practices and recommend approach.

i believe doing the expansion after welding prior to sectioning the mockup would be better in terms of simulating the production process.

any idea?

thanks

ASME IX is clear
The test is performed with expansion and weld completed.

Thanks r6155,,
can you please refer us to the specific clause of ASME IX in this regard? as per ASME IX, it is essential variable if expansion required before welding only.

although it makes more sense for me to do it after all welding and expansion, however many manufacturers do it just after welding before final light expansion!

The manufacturer is responsible. Do not copy the work of other manufacturers.
ASME IX is a mockup designed to simulate actual work.
