Hello

I am part of a small ski/snowboard club that is looking at building a small rope tow. I found an old thread on here that linked to plans that have been taken offline.

Does anyone have any experience or know of available plans for a small backyard rope tow?

We have visited a few home made rope tows locally, but it would be interesting to see if someone has available plans.

thanks

Fit a spooling drum to a car starting motor and you have yourself a winch. You will need a frame and anchoring arrangement of course and a car battery with a charger.

Uh, no.
Rope tows run continuously.
A starter motor would burn in minutes.
Starter motors also run _way_ too fast when they're not loaded.

Better to use the starter motor to start an engine, and also use the complete drivetrain, right down to a wheel sans tire to drive the rope.
