Answer to thread1234-282031:
I found out a few days ago how to use submodeling technique with Femap and Nastran!
See "Commands" book, Chapter 7.2.3.1 "Data Surface Definition Method", Section "Output Map Data Surface".
I "mapped" the Total Translation vector from the coarse model output into...
I don't see either, but thanks for your answer!
I actually have 32 GB RAM, but allocate up to 27 GB for Nastran to make sure one can use some other software at the same time...
I already got this error in the past, which was solved with Nastran 7.1 (instead of Nastran 6.1). But this time I...
Hi jste88,
Did you find out how to allocate more than 32000000 words memory for Solution 601,106?
I gave mem=20gb for solving, got the same "Memory allocation" error and I don't understand where these 32000000 words = 244 MB come from (64-bit-server)...
Thanks,
Simon
Hey,
has anyone experience with the Element DMIG? Especially when there are beam elements add at one side and on the other side it is fixed?
Is this possible? If it is what should be entered in the DMIG for the degrees of freedom at the fixed side?
thanks
Hi,
I'm currently looking for submodeling too, but I don't think NX Nastran can do that. One should read the displacements at the boundaries of the "coarse" model and apply them manually on the submodel.
I'm reading the documentation of superelement analysis, this seems easy to do with Femap...
Hi Mario,
here is my highlight scheme for DAT and f06 files (and PRG for Femap Program Files).
Let me know if you extend it.http://files.engineering.com/getfile.aspx?folder=bdb84a5e-f92d-4e8c-a7ca-53248271d904&file=userDefineLang.xml
Thanks gwolf, this NASTRAN command sounds interesting, I'll give it a try with the fatigue analysis software.
I tested my "complex" model with different mesh sizes. With the coarse mesh I got 10% difference between shell and tetra elements, with a finer mesh it fell to 1%, and with an even...
Yes, I use Nastran (NX), and I'm indeed trying to make this direct comparison. I'll check the stress values between coarse and fine meshes to get the accuracy...
I thought of filtering/extracting the nodes on surfaces, but the fatigue analysis software reads data directly from the f06 files...
Well, thanks for your answers.
GBor, there's a picture of an example with a simple plate, in green there are the volume elements and in orange the "skin".
For this model indeed I got the 1% error, which rose to about 10% with the complex geometry... but maybe I used a mesh that wasn't fine...
Hi all,
I'm currently testing the "skinning" of a 3D-finite elemente model to reduce the amount of data for a fatigue analysis (mentionned at the end of thread727-232206).
I modelled a complex (cast) part with Tet10 (10-nodes tetrahedal) volume elements, then meshed the surfaces with Tria6...
Hi all,
I have a model with a pre-stressed bolt and a contact connection between two solids. In addition there is a traction force on one solid.
I'd like to watch the contact status (if there is contact or not) and possibly the gap between the surfaces when there isn't any contact (similarly to...
Hi JohnHam,
Choose Contour Type: Nodal (in Post Data > Contour Options).
Then choose the Node tool on the Select Toolbar.
When you pick a node on the model, you should see its contour value in the Entity Editor.
If yes, then unlock the Data Table, and every Node you will pick will be added in a...
well, it seems that this isn't implemented (due to varying extrapolation coefficient which can affect the results accuracy), I guess I'll have to program it myself with the Femap API - if I find time for this...
cheers
Thanks nicolas, I'll try this out. seems a lot better than projecting every curve :)
I also found out that setting the mesh size on 2 identical contiguous surfaces which *do not have any attributes yet* automatically links one surface to the other - however I can only use that when none of the...
Hi all,
I fear this question is not easier than the previous one, for which I didn't become any answers here...
This time I'd like to plot an output (for example max prin stress) along a line: I got high stress on a surface of a part, and I want to analyse the progress of the stress within the...
