thanks for your clarification, @TGS4. still some enquiry regarding point 1&2.
1. let me take the stress state in shell under internal pressure as an example. such state is familiar to all engineers. i plot the linearized min principal stress in the shell removed from discontinuity, and find...
hi all experts,
i am looking at para.5.4 of 2023 asme VIII-2, and have some questions regarding the buckling analysis, please shed me some light:
1. "if the applied loading results in a compressive stress field within the component, buckling may occur, and an evaluation in accordance with 5.4...
thanks for all replies.
Yeah, the model is based on the example in ASME PTB-3.
i know either 2D axisymmetric model or 90 degree slice of the model is available.
here is the nozzle loading from my spec. see the bottom row of table:
axial force FA=-12000N;
resultant shear force FR=15000N...
hi experts,
I'm working on a finite element analysis (FEA) of a pressure vessel, and I’m using a 1/2 model for the vessel and the nozzle. In this setup, should the forces and moments applied to the nozzle be considered as half of the complete loading, assuming the loading is symmetric? Any...
@hugo50ml, i think that's fraud.
i‘ve examined UW-26(d) you mentioned, which intends that the welder doesn't necessarily be employed by the manufacturer directly. such practice, saving labor cost, isn't rare per my experience. such practice still require the manufacturer's ability on...
@hugo50ml, the company applying for ASME STAMP have to prove its ability on manufacturing. According to my experience, a sample vessel shall be fabricated during joint review by ASME.
the manufacturer holding the stamp may subcontract some parts, which is allowed by ASME code. please refer to...
thanks IdanPV
same worries with me, thus i believe selection of "Membrane+Bending" as a default in ANSYS would lead to a conservative result, because secondary stress may be included the stress。
i agree elastic-plastic is better, i just not quite get used to it presently.
Thanks for your reply.
Thanks IdanPV,
i know that method you mentioned,
my question is how to retrieve linearized primary stress in case that (S1 + S₂ + S₃) is larger than 4*S。
i guess maybe Table 5.6 " exmples of stress classfication" in VIII-2 shall be also used to identify if the stress is primary according to...
hi All,
i have a question regarding local failure criteria in the example of ASME PTB-3, shown as below:
"5.3.2 Example E5.3.2 – Elastic Analysis
In addition to demonstrating protection against plastic collapse, the following elastic analysis criterion
shall be satisfied for each point in the...
