    Procrastination and Internet-addicted

First off, I have to say that my responding is defintely falling into the irony category. maybe the procrastination is the root cause. If you were doing your job, instead of putting of doing it, you'd be busy with work, not with the internet. I'd suggest keep a running list of priorities and...

Why haven't I yet met my new boss?

That one might be a little hard for me to answer, depends on what exactly you do, and how the org. is set up. I understand your concern, nobody wants to be the brown-noser (well, some people do!) that is always saying "look at me" or the person that needs hand-holding, but I think there is a...

Why haven't I yet met my new boss?

Good to meet him, just remeber that despite the fact that he doesn't require regular contact, you don't want to become the invisible employee, otherwise you'll drop to the bottom of all priority lists.

How to Organize Your Desk to Finish Work Faster?

I think this link says it all: http://www.aperfectmess.com/messy_desks.html keeping a really tidy workspace is not only a waste of time, but is conterproductive.

Depression affecting job performance -what if anything to tell boss?

Look at it from this point of view, your manager currently has someone who was a performer, and now is a non-performer. That is a problem. Your boss has no knowledge of why your performance has dropped off. Without any knowledge, he might decide that the problem would be best handled by...

Stress Engineer from US moving to Alberta - How's the work situation?

Unotec -- have you checked out PEO? I thought they were more open to acknowledgin credentials of foreign trained engineers. Then you could apply get status in AB because of the reciprocity agreements.

    Canadian working holiday

Depends on what kind of mechanical design work you are looking for. -40.....Australian......BHP has diamond mines in the NWT, as does Rio Tinto and DeBeers, all looking for people, employee turnover is pretty high, 'cause it's so cold up here. Maybe not the best place for a working holiday...

    paralleling UPS's

If you've got an 80kVA load, two 40kVA UPSs are not more reliable than one 80kVA UPS -- if one of the 40's goes down, you are still down. I can't comment directly on the qaulity of a 40kVA vs a 80kVA, but my gut tells me that the 80kVA will be better. Remember that you usually get what you pay...

    Is engineering boring?

rowingengineer, sounds like you thought that drilling was anything but boring -- I guess to the rest of us non-drill rig jockeys drilling is boring, ah well its all different terminology at the end of the day!

Beginner needs help - video of underside BGA device

There are lots of machines that check chip alignment. this does not have to be done based on the underside of the chip, but rather can use the top. Even if you could get a view of the underside, a visual check may not tell you whether or not you've got cold solder joints.

"For the good of the company"

I'm not sure what or how your company works, but it strikese me that something funny is going on. If this proposal is going to make or break the company, why isn't management taking care of ensuring it gets done? Instead they have delegated this responsibility to someone who has only been...

Switching from Telecom to Electric Power Engineering

Meet with some consulting engineers, and see if they will give you a shot. You know the basic theory, you'll learn details as you go along. Consulting engineers are usually interested in people with a lot of experience -- despite the fact that you've got a different background, perhaps you...

Do Conduit Rules apply to Panduit Raceways??

If your panel shop is a UL listed shop, then let them answer your customers question (there should be a little sticker on their panels indicating that they are).
