I would ask you to check the following below :
1. Go to controlpanel-admin tools--services. You will find the ugplotserver. On double clicking it,it opens a window.
Check if the "path to the executable" is properly set.It should point to the dir where the ugiipqd resides.

Ug stores the excel file with the part itself and one cannot access the excel file from outside,untill you save as the file.But again that saved file is unassociative and cannot work backwards. This was what till nx2.
But, I believe that there might be some way to link an excel sheet back to Ug...

I am particularly interested in knowing about the variable ug_plot_node. At my work place, when I set this variable to my workstation .. the pqmgr remains unconnected. But when I point this variable to another plotserver the pqmgr stays...
the best way is to write whatever you want in annotation,then export it as *.cgm and import the *.cgm back to ug.
extrude the curves .... you have it.
The only problem is ... cgm creates tiny spilnes . you have to adjust.

suppose you create a solid in lay-1 and unite this with another solid in lay-2, the resultant solid will be in layer-2, but Ug still shows an object count in lay-1 because the solid still resides in lay-1. If you delete the unite operation the solid goes to lay-1.
