    I think it is easier to control the flow distribution by uing smaller beds. In addition, sometimes, the land area is more critic than the height.

    Maybe it is very difficult to get a free software. It happens anywhere. I am using a programm called AQUASIM that is made by Prof. Dr. Peter Reichert, Swiss Federal Institute for Environmental Science and Technology (EAWAG), Switzerland. You may ask him for help. He is very kind.
