    Worm face gear info/theory?

Adriaan,(bithkits), That is a "HELICON"; the tapered worm was the "SPIROID"; Was itw division.Gear resembled a spiral bevel gear. HELICON series ranged from 1.500" OD Gear to 24.000" OD, the book listed 31:1/38:1/47:1 ratio's. One problem as I recall is none symmetrical pressure angle...

How does SAE J498b relate to ANSI B92.1

Matt, SAE J498 did not have the total range of spline pitches that ANSI B92.1 did. Also the internal only had one size the external was class1 & class2, B92.1-19xx had class 4,5,6 & 7 for both internal & external. SAE was only 30°PA, B92.1-19xx also covered 37½° & 45° splines, formerly 45°...

    Hypoid Gear Pressure Angles

Jimmy, Here you go, the spiral data is included, as it's referenced by the hypoid equations. Cheers, Winston.http://files.engineering.com/getfile.aspx?folder=4dbccf8a-4b62-41a7-8caa-6e4876b96b80&file=NDHVOLII.pdf

    Hypoid Gear Pressure Angles

Hi, The Timken equations differ significantly from my ancient "New Departure Handbook", that I used for many years. The NDH equations take Pinion Pressure Angle & spiral angle into account as well as pinion drop. These equations were for ball & double angular contact, but the forces from the...

    Involute Spline

galeblank, When the external is hobbed, it is involute form & accepted as it is so slight a deviation from straight. Dimensions listed are for the old SAE J500 straight serrations, 1/2-36.[About 1962]. I may have posted long ago on my Photo-bucket account I'll check & get back. Cheers,

Involute spline distortion at heat treat

Start making a note library, for different materials, Nitraloy, chrome-moly, and the different stainless groups, 17-4, 15-5 etc they do move differently, record before & after dim's, to obtain you own experience of fudge's of so much per in/in or mm/mm. AFM. Abrasive flow Machining was the way...

Industry standard for drawing involute splines

Hi friends, Can anyone tell me how do I draw spline tooth profile having modified tooth thickness (maximum actual). I have a LSP program but it draws the teeth with basic space width. I need to use this profile for checking broached components on a profile projector. But my problem with the...

    Spline class for ANSI B92.1

Table 3, foot note (a) clearly states, class 5 tabulated value, other classes tabulated value times the various class multiplier. The profile & lead errors contribute to the effective fit of a spline set, when comparing actual and effective tooth/space sizes.

    involute spline question

M, you never did share your tooth data. Anyway, here is a 23 tooth, 32/64 DP 30deg PA, Fillet Root Side Fit Class 5, with one tooth cut away.

    involute spline question

M, 19T,32-64 DP, 30 deg PA, Class 5: Flat Root Side Fit, (Min Minor 0.539"?) Fillet Root Side Fit? (Min Minor 0.519"? Min Fillet, 0.009"?)
