We presented that option but the client doesn't want to proceed with that option. The client requires stay-in-place deck forms on all projects and would like to keep all beams with a constant spacing. Splaying the girders helps out greatly but it is not what the client wants.
Our State Project manager has requested the use of weathering steel based on information he has received from FHWA on the uses of weathering steel. We previously looked at concrete beams but the bridge varies in width 13' with a span length of only 42'. I was hoping HPS 70W was available in...
Is it possible to get W18, W14 rolled beam shapes in HPS 70W steel or are they available only in Grade 36W and Grade 50W steel. I am trying to minimize my section depth due to hydraulic concerns on a small bridge project. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
Just wanted some advice or experiences on what it would take to go from one career path in civil engineering (structures/bridge design) to other areas of civil engineering (site development, buildings, etc.) without having to start totally over. I have some experience in these other fields but...
I am doing a substructure study on a truss bridge. The program we have to get loading only does dead load and live load analysis. I am interested to see if there is a spreadsheet available to determine wind loads on the superstructure. Our client has instructed us to use the 17th edition...
I am working on a small bridge replacement project. The span length is approximately 42'. The problem is the structure is located in an intersection with a horizontal curve. The length of Abut.1 is a 37'-4" and Abut. 2 is 50'-4". We have proposed using steel beams with a splayed layout (Abut...
I have a small bridge project in which the bridge varys in width (37' to 51') over a short distance (42'). Based on this varying width, the framing plan will have splayed girders (7'-3" to 10-9"). A question was raised about the live load distribution factors in regards to what the LRFD 3rd...
I am looking for a easy application material to protect steel cables currently being used for a pedestrain bridge. The cables are exposed to roadway spray and chemicals. I would like something that would be easy to apply and would withstand exposure to outside elements and tempatures. Any help...
I am doing quantities for a structure. I was wondering what is the maximum length of reinforcement before splicing bars together. I thought the maximum length was 60'-0". Any help would be helpfully. Thanks!
I am doing a project for a DOT in the Pittsburgh area. I am looking for costs for a 9'-0" drilled caisson rock socket (20' in length) and a 10'-0" drilled caisson (about 40' in length). I found information for smaller diameters but would like to know how much the costs increase for the larger...
Based on conversations from fabicators in North Carolina and Pennsylvania, HPS 70W steel averages between $1.10 - $1.20. Average delivery lengths are around 90' for one fabicator who priced it at $1.10 per lb. Both fabicators stated that they are hoping for a leveling off on prices over the...
I am doing a project for a DOH and utilizing HPS 70W steel. My question is what price per lb. is HPS 70W steel versus Grade 50W? Also, are there any limitations to the length of HPS 70W steel? I am working with plates sizes up to 20"x 1" and 26" x 1 3/8". Thanks
