in reply to q8 (i think), i'm not sure about halagen bulbs but tungsten filiment bulbs do have a shorter life due to an AC voltage, this is because the tungsten evaporates under extreem heat, this evaporation isn't even, therfore causing parts of the filiment to become thinner than others...
