Hello all, does anyone have advice regarding 4130 minimum forge ratio? In many industry specifications, a forge ratio of 4:1 is seen, while many times 3:1 is accepted. Does anyone know the source of the 4:1 forge ratio as I have been unable to find descriptions in literature shwing this produces...
So if I start with material that has a HWRR of 5.0:1 then I forge the material 1.57:1 and then upset it 1.06:1, how can I know what the total forging reduction ratio is?
Is there a set method to combine the forging ratios for cumulative forging processes? I.E. if there are several forging steps taken, how do I combine the reduction ratios from each step to get the total reduction ration to report?
I am looking for recommendations on the heat treatment of ASTM A487 4C. The ASTM specification gives 1600F for austenitizing treatment and 1150F for the tempering heat treatment. I have seen normalizing and austenitizing performed on this material, up to 1700F, and tempering up to 1200F. Does...
For thin-section welding, would you lower your preheat? Thus far, 400F has been the baseline. This preheat would be the same for both overlay and butt welds?

My question was meant to be directed towards finding information regarding experiences welding this material specifically. Has anyone welded this material and has any sources of information that are specific to property changes during welding, distortion due to welding, etc...
Does anyone know of a source of information for this material? I have not been able to find much information and am working towards developing a weld procedure.
