I also got that message one time. I had just imported a parasolid file and was trying to save as a sldprt. I then saved it as a x_t file reopened and saved as a sldprt. It was OK after that.

The relative view is a great function for detailing member bodies but you can also create another display state, hide your bodies and link your drawing view to that state in the feature tree of the drawing view. That way your hidden bodies remain hidden. To show them in the weldment part again...
If you are using the structurals in the solid works weldment profiles, you can then insert a weldment cut list which will have all the structurals listed with lengths. I am assuming you are doing this in a drawing which you can balloon to item number in the cultist.

One thing I have found to be helpful is create a hardware folder in the assembly feature manager tree and place your bolts etc. in it. Then you just have to suppress the folder.

No luck here either, I thought I would check it out too. Went through the tutorial, finished and the run button is greyed out...go figure. Closed it reopened and still greyed out.
I think a design table with your configurations is the way to go. Create 1 flat pattern view & Dim. it "A', "B", etc.then use the design table linked to these dimensions. Hide and create columns/rows to give a table which would have headings Dim "A" etc in the design table of your part then...
I have been using Microsoft security essentials. Its free for home use. (and small businesses as well I believe)I've not had any problems but I am very cautious on downloads & email attachments. It will automatically check downloads too, and updates itself if you allow it to.
Just an FYI. I did something similar a couple of years ago with an manufactured extrusion. I found it was best to create a custom weldment profile and sketch the frame as a weldment and add the members like a weldment. If you properly add the custom profile properties it will create a cutlist...
