A lot of it can be economy related. I mean, if you are taking a job for job's sake in a down economy the hiring manager should understand why you are looking for work six months later.
Back in college we were told to expect to be in 10-12 companies throughout our career, that's ~40 years...
As it turns out, there's a section in the manual that says
"Upon termination, employees will be paid for accrued but unused PTO. If accrued PTO has a negative balance, that time will be deducted from employee’s final pay. "

I found some great tips on engineering.com and also on theladders.com (you don't have to subscribe to the latter to get the free emails). Things like what questions to ask in the interview, what to ask afterwards in a follow up.
And if you do get an interview, be sure to mention to everyone...
And there am I in my bosses office this morning (he's the President of the company) telling him to F%$k off because he was slagging me on something.

Recently in some of the cities around Boston they had all the teachers reapply for their jobs. It's a cost cutting technique based on sub par budgets and inadequate funds.

We recently hired a new temp in shipping. Within a few weeks he outshone everyone in the department. The company asked if he was interested in staying on and he asked about promotions down the road. He was told that this was the only position and nothing else would be above it. We lost him...
