We are required to weld 550NB (22") diameter API5L GrB pipes with A105 SORF flanges. The Carbon content in the flanges has been resticted to <0.25% for weldability. The method of welding will be normal SMAW with stick electrodes.
My questions are
1. Can we use normal E6013 electrodes?
2...
The material is ordinary carbon steel. The Indian Code is IS:2062 and the equivalent is ASTM A36.
Thanks for all the suggestions and tips. The response is really overwhelming.

What is the maximum surface smoothness that can be achieved by simple grinding? Can a finish of 12.5 microns be achieved by grinding with a grinding wheel or is it necessary to use a lathe machine? How does one measure the surface smoothness? Are there any instruments which can give surface...
Can someone direct me to material (preferably online) on this topic. I understand that the National Board has an excellent report on this topic, detailing the "Chinese flange incident" of about a decade ago. What exactly is this 'incident' and how does one get to read this report?

I have not come across this particular equation. However all anchor bolt designs are governed by two criteria
Uplift
Shear
The horizontal loads and moments translate to an uplift force on one set of anchor bolts and an equivalent compressive force on the opposite side of the foundation...
My client wants forged collars for 550NB API5L GrB pipes.( A collar is similar to a flange except that there are no bolt holes. The collars are connected by "quick release couplings")The material specified for the collar is A36.Most of the forging vendors do forging with A105. My...
In designing three plate built up girders are there any guidelines for restricting the maximum leg size of the flange to web fillet weld? The larger the weld size the more difficult it becomes for controlling distortion. The fillet weld is continuous and on both sides. I am looking for rules like...
AWS D1.1 is a structural welding code. It has instructions for testing, and acceptance norms for various welds. Similar codes like ASME Sec IX also require welds to be tested during manufacture only. In other words a weld is checked only once prior to field use.No test as far as I am aware is...
ASTM specifies 0.35% as the maximum carbon content for A105 material. No minimum limit has been specified. My client has asked for A105 forgings and also specified that C<0.25%. My question is whether it is possible to fulfill both A105 and C<0.25%?
