I have a part that I need to make and the design calls for 431 stainless steel because of its magnetic properties. This part will hold another mart that is magnetic. I am having a hard time finding 431 stainless. Would 409 stainless steel work for this?
Are all ferritic stainless steels ( 409...
I was able to get some of this 8020 style extrusion framing for free. But I can't seem to identify the manufacture. It is 90mm x 90mm. It is not 8020.
Does anyone know who makes this?
Yes a balanced bellows system would be the best idea. I could make the bellows out of any material as long as it can hold a slight positive pressure of helium for a while ...and is flexible enough.
thanks for the input! I have

We are trying to design a low cost expandable flight tube that can cut down the air scatter of x-rays. This flight tube need to expand like a bellows from 100mm collapsed to about 800mm fully extended. It needs to have a inside dimension of 300mm x 300mm square ( it could also be round). I was...
Would a thermal imaging camera work looking thru a Fused Silica (UV) Viewport flange?

No school question..... it is only part of an issue I have pertaining to the direction of said window... I have a beryllium window that has a vac side and a atm side and if the vacuum pump fails on the vessel side I need to know if the window will hold and also I need to know the force during...
I have a question about vacuum pressure differential ...so I have a pipe connected to a chamber with a thin beryllium window separating them and on the pipe side the vacuum is 1x10 - 4 torr and on the chamber the vacuum is 1x10 -7 torr . So I would calculate there is a difference of 1x10 -3...
The new location that I need to move the device into is not negotiable. There will be vibration testing done next week so I will have a baseline to reference from. If I just increase the ball and groove size will this help? I do notice some wear on the vee grooves so now is the time for me to...
Thank you for the thoughts and information. Yes I know this frame is not on a true Kinematic mount but it is what I have to live with at this time. I suspect there are several reasons for the lack of repeatability ( under size ball point, wobbling in the post that supports the balls, frame...
I have a very very sensitive x-ray microscope that weighs 4600 lbs. this device is designed to be move in and out of position. It is currently sitting on a 4 point kinematic mount with 4- 1" dia stainless steel balls on every corner. ( 3 corners drop into corresponding vee block and one corner...
Great ideas all- thanks ...I have never use that the slurry flow-honing procedure" might be an option. I have to look into that , thanks btrueblood. As for stacking in a fixture, I am working on two possibilities:
1) have several thinner wafers made and stack in a fixture
2) I am going to try...
Yes - National Jet responded " Unfortunately, we are not able to make the holes that you have requested. I am sorry that we cannot help this"
I was able to have Midwest Tungsten EDM ~50micron holes with some success and that is about the limit. As I said in an earlier post the LASER cut hole...
thread281-278396
It has been almost 5 years and I am still trying to get these small holes drilled in Tungsten ( see thread)
Basically ~5 - 10 micron hole in .300mm thick tungsten. Needs to be a straight thru-hole no taper and smooth edges. ( laser leaves a rough edge and a taper) I am using...
