reduce sway in free standing stair system

I calculated K to be 1.8 and Kl/r = 180. I've been asked to re-evaluate the tension on the cross bracing for the entire stair load on the one brace, not just the uniform load at each platform. Since the columns are already installed I will apply the 5% of load on the bracing. And it looks like...

reduce sway in free standing stair system

Thank you all. I think the sway is in the columns. The stairs are 45 feet high. headers and stringers should be providing the transverse bracing. Stringers and headers analyzed for 100 lb/ft load and 1/4" deflection. Columns are tube so I constant. The sway I'm trying to reduce is probably local...

reduce sway in free standing stair system

Yes same here, platforms and treads are grating not concrete filled pans. So you are saying you braced the stringers not the columns. What about bracing the headers to the stringers at the platform sections? I figured by x-bracing the columns and designing the bracing in tension, I would reduce...

reduce sway in free standing stair system

Stringers analyzed for 100lb/sq ft, deflection L/360 or 1/4 inch. KL/r is 1.8 columns sized @ 5x5x5/16. Owner wants free standing stairs, they are connected to a top floor though. Appears stairs only swap translationally in the plane of the headers not the stringers. Headers are C8s. Bracing...

reduce sway in free standing stair system

I have a few free standing stairs and platforms that seem to be swaying a little too much for the people using them. These stairs and platforms have been analyzed for loads specified in ASCE-7 and deflections limited to 1/4 inch. I recommended and designed cross bracing to limit the sway. I...

Combust sulphur containing organics vary percent oxygen & temperature

I did explain that I was looking for plots for the combustion of those compounds. Plots of concentration verses time, oxygen percent, temperature. These plots are determined using the Arrenhius Rates. Since you were way off base with your first reply I felt compelled to elaborate. Thanks for...

Combust sulphur containing organics vary percent oxygen & temperature

Thanks for the reply. I don't think you answered the question. We know the flow rate, composition, and all the other stoichiometric details that you presented. Question again: What are the Arrenhius Rates for the combustion of these constituents? From this we can construct destruction...

Combust sulphur containing organics vary percent oxygen & temperature

Where can I find plots for the combustion of compounds such as dimethyl disulfide, methly mercaptan, dimethyl sulfide, hydrogen sulfide vs. percent oxygen and temperature. I am trying to determine HAP remove efficiency in flue gases using the excess oxygen and the temperature of the flue gas.

    Alkaline pH neutralization

What are the specific characteristics of the wastewater? Be careful what you use to neutralize. Remember heat of mixing. Avoid strong acids; consider weak acids.

    emission control wastewater discharge

We generate 5,000 gallon batches of spent caustic scrubber from stack emission control. The routine is to ship off site by tanker truck for treatment. We are looking into alernatives. We use to treat on site when we had a pretreatment plant, which we demolished. My first step is if I can apply...

    Depth beyond anchor embedment

Hilti has a program you can download from their website to select bolts based on configuration of the bearing plate, concrete specs, and loads. But you input the concrete thickness and the program will tell you which bolts pass and which fail. Programs work for US and International.

Finding Proper Shipping / Technical Name

You had an explosion and a fire because of these chemicals? Generally explosive materials create a blast or a projectile. They include explosive and detonating devices. It appears you have flammable liquids. I don't see how they can be explosive, by shipping definition, especially at ambient...

Finding Proper Shipping / Technical Name

phoward answered the question. There are 6 divisions of Class 1 explosives. If you read them, it does not appear that this particle product, understand it's called Polish Wax,is an explosive. You didn't answer my question as to why are you shipping it.

Finding Proper Shipping / Technical Name

Get the MSDS that should tell you. If you don't have it contact the manufacturer. I don't see how it is explosive. But with 70 percent xylene it could be flammable. A Class 3 flammable liquid has a flash point less than 60.5 degrees C. A Class 3 combustible liquid has a flash point between 60.5...

    VOC removal through carbon absortion

These compounds can be easily scrubbed with water. You need to get the disposal cost for the water though. Unfortunately you are most likely generating a hazardous waste. Are you a generator now? That is do you have an EPA ID number as a large quantity generator. I apologize are you in the USA...
