I need furher clarificaion.
I am modelling a necking problem.I want to get the engineering stress-strain curve. My specimen is 20mm length and 5 mm radious. I model the quarter section considering the axissymmetry and symmetry about horontal axis. My abaqus model 20 mm length and 5mm width. I...
Wow,
Thank you very much Martin. i apprecite you.
It works. Really I am learning ABAQUS.
This forum is very helpful.
I am going to donate some money for Eng-tips.com. It is very nice.

Hi!
I am modelling a necking problem.I want to get the engineering stress-strain curve. My specimen is 20mm length and 5 mm radious. I model the quarter section considering the axissymmetry and symmetry about horontal axis. My abaqus model 20 mm length and 5mm width. I use axisymmetry element...
Dear All!
What are the average percentage of time of total time for Modelling and Analysing a typical steel structure in any structural software (like Stad Pro or SAP) you use?
Example .....Modelling 50% and analysing 50%
This is just for an information.
thanks

Yes,from 2002 AISC Seismic Provisions to that of 2005, They changed the requirement of Em for members. Originally, FEMA 302 does not require Em for all members. According to FEMA 302, the special seismic combinations are for special situations, example collector/chord, column in...
In IBC 2003, the maximum seismic load effect Em (1617.1.1.2) is used with load combinations in sec 1605.4. That section further says, this Em is required for the design of vulnerable elements critical to the stability of the structure. But, It didn’t spell out specific elements crictical to...
Yes Mike!
This makes sense.
But, i don't know ,why, in IBC , They use different formats.
in some Tables, they use 0.xg, in other Tables, they use just 0.x for spectral response accelerations.
thanking you verymuch

JAE!
For Example
SS = 0.60g, and S1 = 0.40g.
Let's be site classification of ‘Class C’
If we determine Site Coefficients, Fa and Fv. then
Fa = 1.08
Fv = 1.40
So, Adjusted Spectral Response Accelerations:
SMS = Fa(SS) = 1.08(0.6) = 0.65
SM1 = Fv(S1) = 1.40(0.40) = 0.56
So, Design...
Hi all!~
In the IBC,when they write the EQ spectral response acceleration Ss and S1, they use g with Ss and S1;
example Ss=1.4g, then Ss=1.4*9.81?
please explain me

Dear all!
When we analyse and design braced frame structures, we can define braces as truss members or frame members with moment releases at both ends (My and Mz).
Which is the best way to define braced members in STAAD Pro or in any other similar software
Thanking you in advance
Tharani
Hi!
You may find Ss and S1 values from the US Army Corps of Engineers TI 809-04 "Seismic Design for Buildings" Look at Table 3-3 on pg 3-13, for Iran:
Isfahan............................. 1.24 0.56
Shiraz............................... 1.24 0.56
Tabriz............................... 1.65 0.75...
Considering the combinations from the IBC 2000 or 2003, particularly the 0.6D+0.7E for structural design, if we have an instrument, we consider the instrument selfweight as D load in addition to member weight, and the operating weight (weight of content at operating; OPERATING WEIGHT) as L...
Hi!
I would like to know whether IBC 2003 contains seismic data for other countries(Guinea)?
How can we do EQ design for other country usimh IBC 2003?
Please give me some hints
