Shall i assume that the discharge pressure will be the same at a the given flow??? we will adjust the pump stroke to meet the desired flow but at what pressure.
Does this mean that i need to work out the discharge piping friction at the given flow and add it to the ssyetm back pressure???

We cannot opearte the pump without knowing the expected disch pressure. This if our safety rules to ensure the downstream equipment will not be impacted. How can i do it if i only know the flow????

Gents,
How can i calculate the estimated discharge pressure of a positive disp. pump at a given flow only. The curves are not avialible, the vendor does not exist any more and no data at all for this pump. The pump was not in use and we will connect it to new process and need to estimate the...
Thankx gents,
We are buying the pump from Lewa its self .
They confirmed the low NPSHA and the performance chart shows that this pump can handle such a low NPSH. However, what worries me is the solids, our process guyes could not estimate the soilds size and therfore, it is unknown for Lewa if...
Gents,
We are planning to select a PTFE single diapfragm metring pump to pump gasoline. The pump will opertate at 50 meters diff. head and 1.2 m3/h flow. It pumps from the tank buttom and the stream contains solid particles, does this pump type fit the requirmentrs? Does PTFE handles such a...

Thnaks for the help, as i do not have API-684, do you know any links i can learn about these frequencies???
this is very important to me as the results for lateral/torsional analysis in one of our gear box indicates that we are running closer to lateral speed??? therfore, i need to...
Gents,
I do not know the defference between the torsional and lateral critical speeds ? when do we need to consider either? for new draft forced fan, do we need to do such an analysis as recommended by the API? can anybody explain the ifference in a simple way??
Gents,
very wide subject and if the answer to the question i raised is simple, there will never be such detailed response and discussion.
Turning the pump manually is not adviced in our plant as we need totaly to isolate and tag out the pump to do such whsich is not prefered as the main pump...
i am trying to classify the pumps based on the criticality and services. I am stuck with product pumps and lube oil pumps as swapping might cause a process dip and cause a plant trip (e.g. low lube oil pressure).
i am thinking of running them for an hour once a month in circulation and check up...
Does this mean the work done by the pump remains the same and only the static energy (input power) increases??? In that case during pump evaluation, how do we calculate the head,as normally we use the design diff pressure and specific gravity to calcualte the head. as the discharge pressure will...
Gents,
Thankl alot for your thouts an dlet me answer some of your questions.
pablo02:
The pumps are used in a chemical plant (olefins) and all varies in size between 3 KW to 1 MW motors. Mainly any pump in the plant is critical as it will cause process upset when both pumps are not...
Gents,
I am in the process to develop a swapping criteria for the stand by pump. When to swap , how and what frequency is required. I know it is not good to keep the s/b pump idle and it is not good to keep on starting it. So we are in between......but what to do????
the objective is to ensure...
