Rigid coupling design - friction of bolted shaft flanges

thread404-305627 So the thread above is closed and last edited 2 years ago but didn't seem to draw any conclusions. I have looked for the answer to this question before to no avail, until now! Hopefully I save someone hours of prowling the internet for this... Shigley's Mechanical...

    Bell crank linkage problem

Curious, what is the reason or theory that proves this is not possible?

    Bell crank linkage problem

Thanks for the replies, two reasons a chain drive will not work, it only applies a pull force and not a push and the application I'm using it in is underwater and sees lots of debris = bad for chains.

    Bell crank linkage problem

Hi, I have what I thought would be a routine design problem that has turned into a head scratcher. I want to control a ring of 145" diameter by moving it approximately 20 degrees around its centre, it does not move axially. I need to do this with a smaller diameter crank which enables me to...

    Shaft critical speed calculation

Hi All, I have a shaft supported by 3 bearings (we'll consider them simple supports) on the ends and one in the middle. The shaft has 2 masses, one on each side of the middle bearing. The shaft is indeterminate so I replace the middle bearing with a force and set the displacement to 0. Now...

    Keyway design

Thanks for all the replies..I think I'll leave the keyseat radius a distance from the shoulder face. Another question for discussion, I have read that the key must protrude past the hub to avoid any stresses from the key corners 'digging in' to the hub material. Is this true for keys with...

    Keyway design

Hi all, I am designing a keyway to fit a 7.625" Shaft. I sized the key and keyseat and everything looks good from a stress point of view, however, I am more curious about the positioning of the key. The key is 1.75" W X 1.5" H and 10" Long with radius equal to half the width of the key on the...

    Selection Highlight

My power supply has been failing me as of late (random system reboots with blue screen). This has also been happening in the last few weeks but it has since been replaced. I have a tough time believing this minor glitch is related to a hardware issue. Anyways, I still cannot highlight edges...

    Selection Highlight

The problem has just appeared in the last 2 weeks or so. I've rebooted many times, this is really starting to get annoying. I'm using NVidia Quadro FX 1500. I'm beginning to think I adjusted a setting at one time and don't know what it is. Thanks for your help

    Selection Highlight

Hello, I have a problem with SW2009 in Drawing view. When I try to dimension a feature, the little blue selection highlight circles are not appearing. I can dimension the feature, but it will not highlight edges or vertices. Also, when I click an edge, 3 zeros quickly flash and disappear...

    Hyperstudy Scripting

Hello, I am running Hyperstudy for an optimization using Abaqus as a solver. Two questions: 1. Just to make sure when registering my solver script, I point to C:/Abaqus/Commands/abq672se.bat 2. How do I write the script to delay Hyperstudy from continuing my study until Abaqus has actually...

    Shell Displacement

No theory in particular...I just think, mathematically and depending on the degree of deformation, there should be a net difference in displacement between all layers in any direction. Maybe not in the direction of the force being applied, but definitely in the direction the bar is longest...

    Shell Displacement

Well theoretically, there should be different displacements for each ply if I assign them a thickness. It doesn't necessarily have to delaminate for each ply to have a displacement. The test sample is deforming so I don't see why I'm not getting the correct results. Tyler

    Shell Displacement

So I have modelled a simple flat bar with 5 plies, I can see my ply stack plot so I know it's modelled correctly. When I analyze it, I use one integration point and specify which to use in my field output. My result is different von Mises stress for each ply at different location, exactly what...
