Thanks for the replies, two reasons a chain drive will not work, it only applies a pull force and not a push and the application I'm using it in is underwater and sees lots of debris = bad for chains.

No theory in particular...I just think, mathematically and depending on the degree of deformation, there should be a net difference in displacement between all layers in any direction. Maybe not in the direction of the force being applied, but definitely in the direction the bar is longest...

Well theoretically, there should be different displacements for each ply if I assign them a thickness. It doesn't necessarily have to delaminate for each ply to have a displacement. The test sample is deforming so I don't see why I'm not getting the correct results. Tyler
